Ten Gifts I am Giving Myself

Since Christmas is sparse this year, I decided to give myself some gifts.

Here are the ten things I am giving myself:

1.  I gave myself permission to go through my FaceBook friend list and remove some people that don’t post uplifting things.

2.  When I say to Levi, “You’re handsome,”   I taught him to reply, “You’re skinny.”

3.  I brought out the old photo albums of when the older kids were little.  It makes me happy to see how far we’ve come from the teeny house all decorated in country blue to the farm and life we have now.  We always dreamed of this and I need to appreciate it more.

4.  I released myself from the pressure of baking a zillion cookies and taking them to the neighbors.  I can’t do it all and this year I am not going to try.

5.  I added this announcement to my etsy shop front page:

**We are taking a week off for the holidays.  Any orders placed the week of December 24 through January 2 will be shipped after January 3.  Thank you and Merry Christmas!**

6.  No big Christmas dinner.  I’m making frozen lasagnas and salad.

7.  I asked James to do a little, bitty bit of the shopping.  He generally does not shop, but this year he did pick up a few things we needed.  Thanks Hon, for joining the team.

8.  Frontierville.  It’s a ridiculous waste of time, but I enjoy it so I’m giving myself permission to play.

9.  On Christmas day I am letting myself stop worrying about my diet and eat what I want.  For one day.  How bad can it be?

10.  You all, my sweet and wonderful blog readers, are a great gift to me this year and you didn’t cost a thing!

I hope you will give yourself something special this year.

Merry Christmas!

This list is a great idea; most of the best blessings are free! Your blog has been a enjoyment for me ever since I found it. I had missed you and your family and now I feel like I get a slice of your happenings every now and then. Have a wonderful holiday week and do give yourself a break (from work, cooking, and especially that horrid diet)!
All is well for me and my family here in Colorado. I am very glad to be living near them rather than having to travel to them for a change. Tommy will be here for the week after Christmas and we will be going up to the mountains to enjoy the snow.
    Love, Laura

  2. dear Gifted,

I love your list of gifts to yourself. That is my style of gift giving!
    Today, after a long (sometimes interspersed with a sick-bug) 2 weeks of the ‘Big-bedroom- makeover-project’, I am giving myself the gift of sitting with my feet up by the fire on this frosty cold Nebraska day. Reading my favorite blogs mostly and traipsing to the kitchen now and then to replenish my hot drink. Oh, and being on hand to help my KitKat on her doll-house building project. She is 12, and making my heart sing because she is not growing up faster than neccessary, and still loves her Mom’s company!{smile}
The ‘FiberglassMan’ and our 3 boys are traveling back from a long delivery/work trip to FL. (It is a gift that things are quiet and undemanding around here for a little while)

Hope you have a wonderful day, and Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family.

  3. Good morning~
See this is why I need to stop by your place every…morning! (day)
Thank you…my blogger friend for the idea to stop think & let myself have a few treats! That I would really enjoy!…..Less pressure!
I had just pulled up my blog, wasgoing to hit-‘new post’ and title it “Is it only “ME” who wants to scream today”? Well…I am sure that the word scream would make me lose one of my 10 readers as such behavior would not be…um…you get the idea? I am confessing here I am not as meek & quiet as I’d like at all times!
So…anywho, the point- I need to tell myself as well, “no Lori you are not going to do “all” these sweet things that you think you are!” My oldest daughter said…”Mom. in January some point when all these nice neighbors are just sitting (staring at the snow piles) why not stop & say hello & take a baked treat then” 🙂 where did I get her…God has blessed me! Now I need a course in “dying to guilt” okay one step at a time. 😉
Lisa, what happened to the “quiet days when holidays we calmer & Daddy was home & we went to visit the family or had them & went to church and Christmas was that; the meaning of Christ”? Things are just so …busy & rushed now?
Lets chat about the small country blue house…(I used to have a-lot-o-c-blue myself!) 🙂
How long have you had ‘your dream’ and space’?
I am praying for God to help me with being content w/ small & awaiting the plane fair to fly you here to “arrange my lay-out ” thats where I am stumped? I can not see clear on it anymore & now am frustrated?
Oh well we will see…how did you do small-er?
Have a great day thanks for the great “GIFT” ideas! 🙂
    Blessings~
    ~Lori-Marie

  4. “You’re skinny.” Love, love, love it!!! I bet I can get my kids to do that too – although I’m not sure hubby would like it very much – so maybe not.

Ansd what is Frontierville? Never heard of that???

Thank you my blogger friend for being a wonderful Christ led part of my life! I learn so much form you and I can’t wait each day to learn something new!

  5. Lisa, I love your list and love that I have found your blog.

You’re skinny will become part of the routine around here.

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  6. Great ideas! Love #2, but I don’t think my kiddos will buy into it. Maybe I could train the new one–he’s stuck between English and Chinese language. Merry Christmas

  7. I’m so stealing the “skinny” bit. I have no idea what is fronterville is but I’m so giving myself a luxury item as well, lately that would be a bubble bath without little kids interrupting.

You are a blessing! You are loved!!!

  8. Dang Lisa, I sure wish you had posted this a week or two ago before I have nearly worked myself into a dark depression (aka exhaustion) making cookies, treats, shopping, making more treats, co-hosting a work party for 50, and working everyday. So I’m saving it for next year! Thanks!!! Now I gotta go get ready for the relatives to arrive in 2 days! Only 2 more casseroles to go…
Merry Christmas blogging friend…you sure do bless me!
    Love,
    the other Lisa

  9. What a beautiful post. Inspired by you I am giving myself permission to unsub from newsletters and reduce my RSS feed. Boy it’s tough but liberating. I absolutely LOVE your #6 – enjoy your Christmas meal with your beautiful family and thank you for sharing such wonderful posts over the past year 🙂
