Top Ten Projects of 2010

Rhonda over at Southern Hospitality is hosting this party and I thought it would be fun to participate.  I’m feeling like a frump because I’ve slept for the past three days then maybe looking back at what I’ve done around here in the past year will snap me out of it.

Let’s go backwards…David Letterman style.  Drum roll please…..

Ten:  I started the year working on my bedroom.  I added crown moulding to my bookshelves and wrapped all of the books in brown paper. It made me feel better about my extreme book collection, which is ever growing and I may have to go to group therapy to make myself get rid of some of them.

Still working on my bedroom, I found some clearance faux silk dupioni and made bedding with it.  Between the dupioni and some rich brown velvet…every day I feel like I am the queen of the world.  OK, queen of the house.  But that’s all that matters around here.

Nine:  My biggest project of the year….Noah’s room.  We enclosed part of the front porch to make a place for Noah to sleep and store Legos.  This was my One Project Closer winning entry!

Eight:  I spent the month of April monogramming gifts for our friend’s wedding.  Pillows and dish towels and tote bags, oh my!  It was a big project!

Seven:  In May we graduated Jacob from our homeschool.  We had a lovely ceremony and reception.  We made these adorable graduation caps that I saw on Bakerella…..they were a hit!  And I used stuff I already I had for table centerpieces.  I love use-what-you-have decorating!

(we re-used this vase for a bridal shower)

Six:  I can’t do a year in review without talking about my piano.  I still love it and am so glad I painted it!

Five:  The kids and I built the deck around the pool.  In September.  Heat.

It completely wore me out.

Four: Another summer project was redoing the living room.  I recovered the wicker chairs and one of the couches, made the silhouettes (idea of my friend Kellie)

Three:  Free Christmas decorating.  This past year was all about doing things cheaply, or free…..it was a fun challenge!

Two:  The December project was my bathroom.  The water pouring in under the toilet turned out to be a blessing.  It forced me to do a job I’d been putting off.  Hooray for silver linings!

One:  The playhouses.  One for a girl and one for a boy.

Wow!  I did get a lot done this year.  I feel like I left a lot out.  I didn’t mention my painted lockers or the candy machine or the guest house.  No wonder I’m so tired!  But knowing myself the way I do, I won’t slow down in 2011.  In fact, I already have several things in mind.  The first week in January the girls and I are doing all of the flowers for a friend’s wedding.  I still have a lot to finish on the deck and I want to make some changes to the guest house.  I am so glad you all put up with my crazy projects.

  1. I live vicariously thru your projects. They are all things I would love to do if I were able….so instead of sitting and moaning about what I can’t do, God led me to your blog to see what I could have done, and the things I can look forward to doing in His house one Day! <3

Thanks for the entertainment and looking forward to more in 2011!

  2. I am completely impressed with the fact that you built the deck around your pool! I need to go back through your archive and see if you show photos of your guest house!

  3. Wow sweet mama; you rock! Your home is beautiful by the way; so stylish and I LOVE what you have done with your piano. You deserve three MONTHs rest after those wonderful achievements. I hope you are feeling rested 😉 You are such an inspiration and I can’t wait to see what you get up to next year 😉

  4. You know I love everything you do, but………….those houses make me long for a little one to play with in it. Maybe the stork will surprise me with one, then I will beg you to make me one. Thank You for always inspiring me, but mostly thank you for being my friend-I can’t wait to wrap my arms around your neck and see you. You are a blessing

Happy New Year….take a wee break before you start your new projects, but be sure to post them on your blog. You inspire me!…. though the evidence for the inspiration is still unseen. We live in hope!
    God bless in 2011 x

  9. I think I am actually going to go lie down after reading this. You are one busy mama if I add in all the hours that raising your kids and homeschooling requires. Bravo!

  10. Even though I’ve watched you do all these projects over the course of the year and have been amazed while watching you, seeing it all (or most of it) in one post is truly spectacular. 🙂 I can’t wait to host you in my house (well, my mom’s house) at the end of the month and pick your brain. 🙂 I’m very home-improvement challenged. 🙂

  11. Wow, you’re amazing! This was so fun to read because I’m a little clueless when it comes to decorating and making crafts, but I always like to see new ideas. Great pics — that piano looks awesome 🙂

  12. Dear In the Top Ten,

You are Tops! Those are great projects too. Love the photo of your kids and you after the deck project!
My on-going project of the year (really just a month) is our bedroom. It is in the finishing details stage, and looking good. Have to get my Prairie Hen-project-planner out here to inspect pretty soon.

    love,

  13. First let me say that YOU INSPIRE ME in so many many ways!! I just don’t know how you do it all, but you do and your home is wonderful. I want my home to be wonderful too.
Next, I am totally in love with the Saavy Southern Woman. I went right out and bought bed linens for my guest mish-mashed bedroom and for my very own bedroom too. I might even put up something on my walls soon. We have our new church home group coming to our house Saturday and I instructed my husband to help remind me to put the newly washed bed linens on the beds before then. His response….”are they spending the night?”
    Gotta love him.

  14. Lisa, I saw all these projects you completed individually but when you put them all together…wow! I am always in awe of your creativity and talent. That you can accomplish all this with children and home schooling is amazing.
    Hugs,
    Sherry

  15. That was not a list from greatest to least… Although I’ve loved all or your projects, I’m still trying to decide my favorite between the painted piano and Noah’s room… it’s really close…

  16. Oh, I just love looking at the pretty pictures of what you have done in your home! You have made such a cozy, welcoming space for your family! Love it!!! 🙂
