Little Joys
By Grace
The other evening, my seven-year-old brother Elijah was excitedly telling me how he loved making bookmarks. Since I had just been looking for one, I had an idea. “Oh, I really need a bookmark!” I told him excitedly. “Would you please make one for me?”
I wish you could have seen his face light up! He was so happy to do it for me, so pleased that I would take an interest in something that was special to him, so glad to help me. As soon as his chores were done he rushed to do it, and soon proudly brought me his creation: a white bookmark with pictures of mice, sheep, porcupines, and other animals he’d learned to draw in a class he recently took. Above all this was a big heart, and inside the heart was me (with two giant curls sticking out of my head) and him — holding hands and smiling.
I told him how much I loved it and ran right off to get a book to put it in. I don’t think I can explain how happy this simple little thing made him. It wasn’t hard for me, and didn’t take very much extra effort on my part, and yet it meant so much to him! It was entirely worth it. Plus, I now have a bookmark.
Girls, be on the lookout for small things you can do to make your siblings — older or younger — feel special to you!
It is always a joy to bless them in this way.
What a blessing your heart must be to your parents!

What a great post! Good advice for the oldest of six. Thank you for sharing this story. Maybe I will ask one of my siblings to make me a bookmark! How sweet.
God bless, Mimi
Yaay for you Miss Grace, and a great lesson for every living person! As adults we often get so caught up in the “I’d rather do it myself” syndrome, that we forget to “allow” people to bless us!!!
You have been a blessing to ME today!
in His love,
J
