Before & After, Week 1

I have been looking forward to today.  It is the first week of the Before & After Project contest.

Each Sunday during the summer they are going to choose a winning entry from all of the submissions they have gotten.  The purpose of the contest is to bring attention to Habitat for Humanity.  What a great combination….amazing home remodels to support generous home builders.  Very cool.

I am constantly amazed by people’s creativity and perseverance. The  Week One Winner is no exception.  What a fantastic job they did of rebuilding the entire front of their 1910 home!  One rule of the contest is that you have to have done most of the work yourself.  I can’t imagine tearing apart an old house and bringing it up to date….wait!  That’s what we’re doing.  OK, I can imagine and let me say….it is a LOT of hard work.

Here’s their house before:

And after:

Wowsa!  Don’t you just love those cedar shingles?  They are original to the house.  And it looks so much better without all of the overgrown bushes in the front.  The job of removing them must have been a nightmare.  They are blogging about the whole process too.  I’m going to enjoy following their process.

If you’ve done a home remodel in the past year you can still enter.  Head over to One Project Closer and check out the rules.

  1. Thanks for your post. You’re so right about the system — the problem with their disorganizational tendencies is only that they’ve picked up bad habits from their Mama! 🙂 No, I think I have brainstormed a few things to make life easier on everyone, and now it will just be a matter of sticking to it and making the system work for us — that’s the hard part. I’m still waiting for the laundry fairy to arrive, but until then… I’ll take it one load at a time. 😉

Thanks again for your comments — you so inspire me!

  2. I volunteer for Habitat for Humanity–it is no easy job making a house, much less remodeling one.
We get floorplans, flooring and all the nails and siding and landscaping supplies, etc…in other words, we just are the workers, no brains involved, really. (Well, some!)
But to have a vision of where one is going with a design is an entirely different matter!
So, kudos to these people and on this home!
What a great job on this house!
    Thanks for sharing it!
    Hugs!
