Getting Ready for the Fall

We’ve taken the summer decor out and begun setting out the fall pretties.

Five hay bales are on the front porch just waiting for the pumpkins to arrive in the stores.

Inside the house it’s out with the shells and in with acorns and leaves.

What I love about my cages on the mantle is that they are so easy to quickly change for the seasons.

It’s not amazing or wonderful like some of your mantles, but it’s just what this room needs.  When I try to put too much, or too cute, it just makes the whole room feel messy.

Keeping it simple is the way to go in this full room.

My gorgeous Pottery Barn bread bowl sits on my big table.  I just changed the runner, took out the shells and tossed in some acorns. Perfect.

And the other table in the room, the school table, needs to be quickly cleared off for school.  So I used the mums and candles.  I can’t find my fall runner for this table.  How does this happen?  Everything was on the same box except that. Since I made it myself, I probably put it somewhere special.  That’s what I do, “I’ll put it here so “I’ll remember it” which is code for “gone forever”.

One of my favorite seasonal decorations is to fill old jars with candy.  In this case I used the classic candy corn in one and I found fall colored m&m’s for the other.  The kids are used to it and don’t eat them.  They know that I will let them have them at the end of the season.

Again, I have a pretty little runner I’d love to use on the coffee table, but it has mysteriously disappeared.  Really, what is happening?  I think I’m losing my mind.

My friend Kellie is doing link parties all month to celebrate fall.  It’s really getting me in the mood for the cooler weather.  Go check her out on Wednesday to see some really clever fall ideas!  Maybe by then I will have found my runners.  But probably not.

  1. Your mantle looks so pretty. I would have never thought to put those items in your cage cloche’s, what a great idea.

I think I have what you have; things go missing just when I specifically put it somewhere for safe keeping. I refer to it as sometimers 🙂

  2. I really like the cages and changing them out for the season…I’ll have to remember that with my bird cages. I love the PB wood bowl on your table…my table right now is covered with a craft project, stacks of books and my husband’s laptop.

  3. Oh, that looks so pretty. I love the idea of the candies in the jars. With a three year old I’m not sure how long they would stay there though!

I am the same way about “remembering” where I put things. Gone forever-so true!

  4. This post made me laugh..not the reaction you were expecting I’m sure. I laugh because I can’t ever see myself decorating for seasons. I joke to people that if all my Christmas stuff doesn’t fit in 2 bins then I have too much. Obviously, I’m a minimalist and definitely not a saver.

  8. Okay, in all honesty, my husband picked up some wooden pilgrims in Old Time Pottery the other day and laughed because they looked funny…but you have made them look just GORGEOUS. Love your simplistic decorations…just perfect!

  9. LISA!
Listen, if you find your mind–see if mine’s there, too, okay?
I love all your simply cozy Fall decorations, especially the candy in the old jars!!
    How fun is that???
It seems like everyone all around blogland is getting out their Fall decor.
I suppose I ought to, as well.
And, if it makes you feel any better, I don’t have ANY Fall runners.
Yes, when you come to my home for scones, we will have tea.
But, only in the afternoon, ’round 4. That’s when we take tea here.
    What kind do you like?
Blessings to you, sweet sister in Christ!
