Some Cool Weather and a Spanx Incident…Just a Normal Weekend

It was a wonderful weekend.  We were all together, the weather was crisp and cool, everyone was healthy….as close to perfection as I can think of.

Friday night James and I went out to our favorite local seafood restaurant.  We eat there about once a month and enjoy some awesome fried shrimp.  It’s a family owned place….very friendly.  We had a great time, well except for the bus boy spilling an entire glass of ice water on me.  As we were leaving we both went to the restroom then were going to meet at the car.  I came out first and walked through the restaurant, out the door and down the loooong handicap ramp and toward the car.  James came out and as he came up behind me he was kind of shouting, “Lisa!  your…your….it’s…your…” in a kind of a panic sounding voice.

“It’s…..stuck…..I don’t know….your….”

I realized he was trying to tell me something…..stuck?  What is it honey?  Can’t get it out?  Want to play charades and see if I can guess?

He kept rushing toward me trying to get the words out when I noticed he said the word “stuck” a lot.  Then it occurred to me, maybe I had something stuck somewhere.  I’m smart like that.

I felt around and discovered that my skirt was stuck all the way up in my Spanx.  My right back side had been exposed to the world and he froze in an effort to warn me.  We’re the perfect pair.

I pulled my skirt out and spread it down, laughing so hard I could hardly breathe.  Oh the happy patrons in the local, family owned seafood restaurant.  They got to see a side of me that I usually only show to the customers in the parking lot at Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Saturday morning the girls and I started cleaning out the shop.  We needed better organization and a spot for Christmas products.  So we unloaded the whole place and only put back what we use regularly.   At one point in the process I reached the moment where I wondered if we could finish.  The mess overwhelms me and I want to just throw it all out on the curb.

It took 2 days, but we are down to a small pile of fabrics to go through and a couple of laundry baskets full of junk in my bedroom for me to decide what to do with.

We hung shelves all along the walls, finally giving over to the reality that it isn’t a guest house anymore.  I really wanted to keep it for company, but it wasn’t working.  Now it looks like a real workshop….just in time for the holiday rush.

Sunday morning I met my aunt and uncle for breakfast.  As I drove through the Texas countryside with my windows rolled down, I was so grateful to live in such a beautiful, friendly place.  I took a few pictures to show the peacefulness of the morning.  All of this was within a few miles of my home.

Looking ahead to the week it will be more of the same, Lord willing.  Nice weather, friendly people and maybe, if we’re lucky, a few skirt-in-the-spanx kind of moments.

Have a great week!

  1. I would LOVE to have a space like this! Great job on the organization! I can definitely relate to your Spanx experience except I was in a church and my skirt was in my pantyhose. I marched all the way from the bathroom in the foyer of the church to the 3rd pew from the front and did NOT even know it. Then I had to stand before the entire congregation and sing!!!!

  2. Oh my goodness, that is exactly the kind of thing that would happen to me. Except mine was at church and toilet paper was stuck to my shoe and I drug it all the way up the stairs in to the sanctuary. lol It is hard to notice these things when there is a crying baby on your hip. My poor husband was mortified, but then laughed him self silly too. That was a long time ago but your story brought back the memory. Thank you for your blog, it always gives me something to laugh at, think about or be grateful for. The one post with your girlfriends and you had an accident helped me discover Assets. I had been looking for something exactly like. lol

  3. Haha…thanks for sharing your Spanx story!! It was a good laugh and a good reminder to CHECK the clothing before waltzing through a restaurant. Oh and to have that happen at church by IM4GIVEN….yes we do need to laugh at ourselves!! 🙂 I need to sort and reorganize soooo many spaces in my house. Looks nice!

  4. My daughter and I are sitting here just cracking up laughing. Love that you can see the humor in this. We live right on the border of TX in NM.It isn’t that pretty down here.Just brown desert and a lot of dust,no trees or green grass, but the open blue sky sure is beautiful and my daughter says the Mountains are pretty too.Blessings,Muffy

  5. Laughing, laughing! Oh, my goodness… Mother intercepted a lady up at the second pew as the woman paraded up the center church aisle after using the restroom. Hmm. The way Mother described it, she looked just like you did. HAHAHA! You’re just too funny! James is stuck on you, huh?

And your “new” shop looks fantastic! That must feel so liberating!

I sure miss fall on the mainland. I can only imagine how beautiful Texas is right now! We’re headed to Arizona in a couple weeks… Can’t wait. Not as colorful as Texas, I’m sure, but Mexican, here I come!

And since I’m on the mainland, guess what I DON’T see on your site? What a mystery, huh?

    Blessings all around,
    Kelley~

  6. Oh my gosh, Lisa! My kids just asked me if I were going insane because I was laughing so hard. It reminded me of another of my mother’s embarrassing escapades. Mom was shopping with a friend at a midnight madness sale one night and it was really crowded and chaotic. The dressing rooms were full so Mom was trying on clothes on top of what she already had on. Her friend frantically got her attention because Mom had inadvertently unbuttoned her blouse leaving her bra and stomach completely exposed there in front of everyone!

  7. Too funny! I have a sewing room/laundry space I’ve been meaning to tackle and you just inspired me!
