Tuesday’s the New Monday

I think I missed Monday.

James and I were gone all weekend to a conference outside of Dallas, or as we Texans like to call it, the Big-D.

I would love to fill you in on the weekend’s activities, but it is all a blur.  After only an hour or so of being back home the memory of getting away faded into the background of kids and unpacking and wondering if there was any food in the fridge (which there wasn’t).

I do recall enjoying time with several friends that went to the conference also.  And there may have been chocolate involved.

Back on the homefront the “terrible illness of 2011” seems to be coming to an end.  It has been almost 2 days since anyone threw up and we all have our fingers and toes crossed.  Could it really be over?  Does crossing your toes actually help anything?  Is it possible to boil an entire house?  Is there any chocolate left from the weekend?

And now, like a blink, it’s time to gear up for Thanksgiving.  But I’ve got a plan.  I’m going to go to the big city this Wednesday morning and get ahead of the crowds.  I’ll buy everything I need so I don’t have to go to the store again.  Y’all know I don’t do well with crowds.  Last year I stood in line for an hour and a half to buy a Honey Baked ham.  Not this year.  This year I will serve whatever is available at the store with the least number of cars in the parking lot.  If that means tamales with chili for Thanksgiving, so be it.

Oh, if you’ve been invited to my house for Thanksgiving…stay tuned.  It may be a Mexican themed meal.  Look at the bright side, we get to take a siesta after lunch.

Have a great week…..and since I missed Monday it will be a short one!

  1. Me personally, I’d eat Mexican for Thanksgiving. LOL! Trying to talk the rest of the troops into that would be difficult.
Well I’m glad you had a good weekend and that the Pennington Epidemic of 2011 is on it’s way out.
I hope you have a lovely day today!

  2. Or, you could come to our place for our Thanksgiving Day Progressive Dinner. Dinner at my place at 3 p.m. Friday (that gives you enough time to fly out of Dallas and get here by 3, girl). Dessert at Donna’s afterward. After dessert we’re all going to Foot Zone for a 1.5 hour massage that costs– are you sitting down?– P500 ($12.19). No, we don’t take off anything except our shoes. Ladies in one room; guys in the other. Last time? I fell asleep. Heavenly! What a way to conclude a day of being thankful for all those people who have
    (a) puked on you. Repeatedly.
    (b) puked because of you. Repeatedly.
    (c) puked in spite of you. So VERY thankful.

  3. We had one year where the kids got a stomach bug in January, February, and March! That was no fun, sister! I am thankful along with you for your illness being gone – toes crossed in sympathy with ya!

Enjoy your time in the big city, etc…I am buying all I need this Friday then I don’t have to “buck the crowd” as my Grandmother was fond of saying!

  4. Oh stomach bugs are the WORST ! Glad its on the mend! Speaking of Honey baked hams, we bought one last year, paid too much money for it, and I’d rather have the ones from Sam’s club that you make your own glaze any day over an overpriced HBH. I guess my palate is not that refined, but I don’t see what all the fuss is over! What are some of your traditional dishes that you serve every year ?
