My Unofficial Mother’s Day
Having given birth nine times, I felt I deserved something extra amazing for Mother’s Day. Amen?
Circumstances caused us to put off observing Mother’s Day until this past Saturday. This gave me extra time to decide what I wanted. I thunk and I thunk and then it hit me like a lightening bolt. I could get a day’s work out of everyone. Oh yeah baby. That’s what I wanted.
So I emailed a list to James (that’s how we communicate, even though he works at home and we are almost always together, we mostly talk by texting and emailing). I wanted a clothes line. I have been asking for a clothes line ever since we moved here. I wanted the pool area fixed up and the pool filter cleaned out. I asked for help moving some things from my sewing room into the storage building and I wanted new steps on the deck.
I put a little * on the list next to “build deck steps” to indicate importance. This is the view you all have seen….
But what I haven’t shown you is the other side.
Impressive right? Welcome to the perilous world of living at the Penningtons.
Saturday morning came and everyone got to work. James made plans for the deck steps, Grace touched up paint on the back of the house, Jacob dug the post holes for the clothes line, Faith and Adam worked all day on the pool filter, Patience helped with the sewing room, kids were sweeping and cleaning and I, the queen of all things, laid in my new hammock that they got me for Mother’s Day.
Ahem….will someone please come fan me with palm fronds?
Oh, and did I mention that we actually started potty training Levi? Let’s just add that to the pile of work for the weekend.
I can’t show you a finished project yet. Turns out my list was a bit too much for one weekend. Everything has been started and I’ve been promised it will all be finished this week.
Potty training is going OK too. Levi was hanging out with me in the hammock on Saturday afternoon when I said to him, “Hey, do you need to go potty?” He replied, “I don’t know, has the timer gone off?” I may be sending the wrong message.
Getting these projects going was Mother’s Day perfection. I’ve already started my list for next year.
Head on over to Gina’s blog to enter for a chance to win a trip to her house to decorate two rooms with me, Gina and three other amazing decorators!
Love it! Love it! Love it! What a wonderful gift for you! And you most definitely need bon bons to go with the palm frond. 🙂
Antbed…why didn’t I THINK of that?! LOL! It’s going on the list for next year. Ha ha! Lisa~
Love it, I am wanting a clothes line also, hmmmm great minds…. BTW hubby says I am timer trained, haha.

Lisa, This is sooo much better than flowers! It sounds like you have a great husband and kids.
Hugs,
Sherry
What a wonderful idea! And what wonderful folks you have surrounding you to go with it! Really, this is such a wonderful idea for Mother’s Day, or a special birthday. Delighted for you x
Can’t you just do a faux wood finish on the concrete blocks?
Slave driver!

I pray you are having a wonderfully blessed week with your 9 wonderful blessings!
You are amazingly loved!

P.S. Mark and I text each other sitting on the same sofa!
Oh, we’re getting ready to move, and we’ll have a clothesline at the next place! Can’t wait! And I can’t wait to see pictures of your deck steps!
Hey it sounds like a great mother’s day to me! I need to remember the whole list thing. I’m always stumped like I didn’t have a whole year to know that mother’s day is coming. I always wait till the last minute to think of anything and then my mind goes blank. So I’m with you, I’m getting started on that list now for next year. Hee! Hee!
Have a blessed day!
Brilliant! Don’t you love your hammock? I was afraid at first to get in mine, afraid it would just sink right to the ground, but it didn’t! It held and I breathed a sigh of relief! I think the list idea for mother’s day is just brilliant. Glad you got so much done.
I love when I get manual labour for holidays! Hope it all gets done & best of hope on that potty training thing!
Can’t wait to see the finished projects!
We, too, did not celebrate Mother’s Day on the appropriate Sunday. So I declared “Mother’s Week”. It began on the Monday following the Real Mother’s Day and ended the following Sunday. I highly recommend it! And I think I will make sure we can’t celebrate next year either so I can do the same 🙂
Manual labor – I’m going to remember this one!
So glad I found your blog! Such fun!
Sounds like you are a very busy mom and you do deserve something extra for Mothers Day!! :0) My Mom got something extra about a week late…she got the lung transplant she has been waiting for. Praise God!!

ROTFLOLPIMP!
Levi is my current favorite.
You all are so great. I love your comments.
But Sara, you will break Elijah’s heart if you say Levi is your favorite. 🙂
Oh my, sweet Levi’s timer comment almost had me spitting out my tea! 🙂
Yes, I do believe you are entitled to palm fronds.
