Late Night Gala

Friday night’s THSC gala was lovely.  But I am too old for these late nights.  Driving five hours, going to bed after 1:00 AM, it’s not my scene anymore.

But we did enjoy the night.  There were candles and great music, good friends and inspiring speakers.

For me the highlight of the evening is when they give awards to some of the over-achieving homeschool students.  I mean seriously, these kids will make you feel like a failure as a parent.  These are “plays three instruments-speaks fluent French-memorized the Old Testament-worked at the Capitol-headed up a mission trip to Haiti-written a couple of novels” kind of kids.  As their lists of accomplishments were being rattled off James leaned to me and whispered, “That’s nothin’.  Our kids can recite the credits to every Star Wars movie.”

I’m so proud.

I did enjoy getting all dressed up..

Oh no.  That is not glamorous enough.

Now you’re talkin’.  I am sure the fashion magazines will be calling soon.

I added all of the beads and sequins to the jacket.

Oh yes, check out the ring.

and the shoes (I don’t do heels)….

I carried my adorable purse.

I even had a little blingy headband in my hair.

I was so glitzy I would have been approved for Dancing with the Stars.

The happy couple:

We went with our dear friends, Brian and Sara:

Sara’s blog, The Other End of The Candle, is great.  She took pictures of everything from the food to the speakers….you’ll get the inside scoop from her.

I am still recovering.  A couple of naps should do the trick.  I need to be well rested when the photographers from the magazines come a’callin’.

  1. She had some kind(s) of BLING goin’ on, now! You looked adorable, and I love the bead embellishment and your purse. (I share a purse tute this week on my blog.)

I’m with you– the occasional reason to bring on the bling is fun, but I need time to recuperate!

  2. I don’t do late nights very well any more either. You looked fabulous. Love the embellishments you added. Oh and I don’t do flats either. At 6 foot tall, I don’t need any help vertically. LOL!
Glad you had a fun night!

  3. I am in recovery mode too after my weekend away, you look lovely and it looks like you had a great time, glad I can type this and don’t have to speak because I don’t have any voice left!

  4. Oh you look great, and (despite the late night and its after-effects), it was lovely, I bet, getting out with hubby and adult company. I love the outfit.

I do love the ‘Big deal….’ quote. Hilarious! We’d have to think of something like that too – maybe ‘Big deal – our kids can sort out a sheep’s prolapse and take twins from a sheep who’s struggling to birth them’. Oh well, I’m sure our kids’ achievements will stand them in good stead at some stage 😉

  5. You look BEAUTIFUL! I hope you and your family have a wonderful week. I love reading your blog. I’m sure people tell you that all the time, but I do!

  6. Wow! You look so good! (Though I think you do most of the times I see you.) In fact, you look so good you would even go in the cute category!

  7. First of all you added all the sequins!!! Wow, amazing patience. Loved your shoes.

Secondly thank you for my outloud laugh of the day regarding Star Wars. I am also wondering if those overachieving kids are possibly only children? I always says that I don’t want mine to peak to early in life. 🙂

Happy Easter to you and yours!

  8. Hee hee

I have been browsing your blog, and amazing at some similarities in our lives, I Homeschool 6 kids (you win) , your routine is so similar to mine, cleanliness standards, even age groups, even your philosophy to extracurricular activities, Murder She Wrote marathons, (my preference is more Sci Fi 😉 )

BUT now I know that we DO have similarities as I read this post

“As their lists of accomplishments were being rattled off James leaned to me and whispered, “That’s nothin’. Our kids can recite the credits to every Star Wars movie.””

    WELL……………….I just rolled around……………………ditto in my family…………………..

I could add to my list …………lego constructors, Wii experts, and movie quoter to their fav movies (including Princess Bride, Mega Mind, and Star Wars, just to name a few) !!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing, love the honesty and reality

    Thanks for the laughs!

    Greatly needed, greatly appreciated
