Another Day, Another Gala

It’s time, once again, for the Texas Homeschool Coalition gala.  I have been forced to scour the big city to find something formal to wear.  Really?  They don’t make good, affordable clothing choices for us heavy girls.  But I will make the effort because THSC is an amazing organization that we feel strongly about supporting….even if it means I have to spend way too much time looking for clothing that will fit all the way around my body.

Last year it took me weeks to put together an outfit.  I finally found a jacket at Ross and added trim and sequins to make it work.

This year I’m not going to get quite as dressed up.  I don’t need another formal outfit hanging in my closet reminding me that I will never wear it again but I can’t throw it out either.  I wanted to find something I could make more use of.

It took great effort, but I did it.  I got a flowing black skirt that I can easily use for less dressy occasions (remember though, I get pretty dressed up for everything, that’s me) and a tunic style top.  The top, however, is sleeveless and I DON’T DO SLEEVELESS.  I wrote that in all caps in case you think I’m not serious.  No one wants to see these sunless puppies flapping in the wind.

I took Grace to Cato yesterday and to my surprise they had a cute little shrug-ish jacket for $15 that I can wear over the tunic.  It needs some bling, but tweaking is my speciality.  That I can do.

I scored some cheap, flat, sparkly sandals to complete the outfit.  This, of course, means I need a pedicure.  If you thought my arms were bad, you don’t even want to know what my heels look like.  {{shudder}}

I guess the point here is that I am looking for ways to cover my flaws and create the illusion that I am attractive….like a magic trick.

POOF!  You’re fancy.

Once I get it all put together I will take a picture for your approval.  I wouldn’t be a real girl if I didn’t need all of my friends to tell me I look nice.

  1. I know you will be beautiful whatever you wear, as the light of Jesus shines from your soul, and His love is evident in your smile and eyes. You have a very sweet heart, and I am so glad to have met you my internet sister in Christ <3

  2. I can’t wait to see it all put together…you always look so chic, I love your sense of style 🙂 I waved flailingly at you today outside church, you were engrossed. Mike said he tried too but to no avail….guess you will just see him in Walgreens 😉 😉

    Hugs,
    🙂 Heather

  3. Your beautiful smile’s your bling, girl.

    I LOVE Cato and only discovered it in 2008. I can’t wait to see the jacket you bought and you embellish that baby.

    In other news, the wedding’s history, thank God………….

  4. Well, I think you’ll have a hard time topping last years outfit, cause you look rockin’ let me tell you!!!
    However, that being said I really can’t wait to see the picture of this years outfit! I’d love to see what you can do to tweak it and add some bling.
