I Think I Can, I Think I Can

There are five little words that James loves to hear me say….

“Hey! I’ve got an idea!”

He says it sends chills down his spine.

Isn’t that sweet?

For weeks now I’ve been mulling over building some new products for Shop 24 and I decided this past weekend was the perfect time to try them out.  But first I needed to go to the hardware store.  Then another trip to the hardware store, then another….you know how these projects go.

I convince James by saying things like, “Aw, come on.  It won’t cost more than $10.”  Famous last words.

James will undoubtedly have that engraved on my tombstone.

If he goes first I’m going to have his say, “No, you can’t have any more money for your crazy projects.”

I’ve been bent over my miter saw for the past 2 days and still, nothing to show for it.  I need a t-shirt that reads, “Quiet, Genius at Work.”  Or better yet, “Stop asking me if you can have a snack when I’m using power tools!”

I am, by some quirk of nature, surprisingly good at mitering corners with wood trim.  So I decided to use my gift for the betterment of mankind and make something to sell in my shop.  Create something with wood, I thought.

So far it’s a bust.  I just can’t get my handiwork to look like the idea in my brain.

That’s OK.  I’m going to keep trying.  I’m like the Little Engine That Could.  With power tools.  And 9 snack-less children.  And a husband that wonders how he got himself into this mess.

  1. Just remember it took Thomas Edison 10,000 tries to get the incandescent light right! Of course, James may not survive if it takes 10,000 tries to get your project right! But yes, you can do it!

    Can’t wait to see it!

  2. My husband hates the words I have an idea only slightly less then the words, “We need to think out of the box.” and “If you don’t like it we could always move it back.” 😉

  4. My husband gets those same chills, although it usually means he is going to do the project not me – don’t do power tools!

  5. I love this “Stop asking me if you can have a snack when I’m using power tools!”

Just how I feel about certain kinds of interruptions at certain times.

  6. I’m so excited to see what new idea you have for us to enjoy! I love all the items you have in the shop!
You and your great ideas are such a blessing to me.
