Visiting

The kids and I (minus Jacob…it’s a bummer when your kids grow up and get jobs) are heading off to Grandma and Grandpa’s this weekend.

We haven’t been to visit my parents since Dad’s heart attack last summer.  He’s doing great, but is he ready for this onslaught?  The little beds everywhere there’s an empty spot on the floor, the Legos strewn about, empty root beer bottles filling the trash can….

Yes, that’s right.  A trip to my parents means new toys and lots of sugar.  It’s the American way.

It’s a 5 hour drive.  But traveling with kids is counted like dog years.  Add half an hour per kid and I am looking at a 9 hour drive.  I was amazed at how quickly I got to Nashville when I was all alone and the only thing slowing me down was my old, tired bladder.

By the way, I talk about my bladder a lot here lately.  Are you all tired of hearing it?  Do you wish I would stop telling you my woeful tales of leakage and bathroom stops?   It’s just the facts my friends and I’m a believer in total honesty.

We’ve packed a lunch to take on the road.  I find it hard to think of low carb options when traveling.  Today I’m taking some tuna, fruit and (don’t judge me) pork rinds.  I know they’re gross, but they have no carbs.  The kids will have the standard sandwich and chips.  I doubt I could convince any of them to share my pork rinds.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!  I know I will.  Car rides, seeing my family, chilling out and slowing down.  It’s just what I need.

  1. The other low carb option for travel, of course, involves more bladder action so let’s just not go there, LOL!

  2. Have a great visit, and I’m sure Gramps will feel much better from having seen the grandkids. That’s just the way of Grandpas!

Oh, and yes, I think it’s a bummer to when the kids grow up and can’t go with you everywhere any more… Such is life, I guess.

  3. Oh how I love pork rinds….and don’t get me started on Texas…..I lived in Texas (as my kids will say) in the dark ages…..I sure miss the rodeos and two-stepping….enough of my whining….hope you and the kids have a wonderful weekend and look forward to hearing about you fun trip.

  4. I’ve been wondering how your dad is doing. Hope he has recovered well.

Traveling with just 3 kids is awful for any long distance. I can’t imagine doing it with so many! Good luck. 🙂

  5. Love your line about traveling with kids being counted in dog years! How true! 🙂

Had my mom read your “Date Night” post this evening. Even in the middle of a really sad night at the hospital for our family, it had her laughing out loud, which she really needed!!

Just letting you know that you added a refreshing smile to my sad mom’s face tonight.
