Counting My Blessings

The Lord is so good to cheer me up when I am feeling low.

This deck project has been draining.  James was sick, so he couldn’t really help.  He will come out of his office, criticize make suggestions and leave me, Jacob and Hope to keep working.  It has felt like it was taking for-stinkin-ever.

I got discouraged.  James will leave on Sunday for a week of school and I will be left here with my unfinished deck, nine kids to feed and my dad in the hospital three states away.  Boo hoo me.

So I prayed.  God reminded me to count my blessings.

1. I am thankful for a place to put the pool and deck. Yes, I am aware that it is completely pitiful to be complaining about any of this.

2. I am grateful for my sweet, understanding husband who puts up with my crazy ideas (“Hey honey….let’s build a deck next week!”).

3.  I am thankful for my cheerful, hardworking children that are so helpful.

4. I am thankful for my friends who have been checking on me and asking about my dad and offering to help if we need it.

This morning I had two emails from blogging friends who wanted to let me know they had written a post about me.  Me.  Why, I have no idea.  I took it as God reminding me that everything is going to be OK and I need to take a chill pill.

Leslie is a friend I have really enjoyed getting to know.  She is witty and clever and devoted to her family.  She wrote a hilarious post about my house.

And Nancy, winner of my market tote, wrote about her new tote.  I loved seeing something I made in her house.  How fun!

And we got word that my dad is doing great.  He’s moving to his own room and possibly going to be released on Monday so he and Mom can head back to Texas where they belong.

If you’re feeling low, count your blessings.  I highly recommend it.

  1. You are very blessed indeed. I’m so glad to have a friend that quickly realizes self-pity is no good and that you turn to the Lord immediately. We all fall into it and it’s always sin. This post is a great example that God will and wants to deliver us to a state of gratefulness.

Now hurry up with that deck, you slackers.

you are something else! count your blessings, yes. but you have a reason for feeling low. lots (too much) is on your plate. after all…you are only human. i mean super mom.

if my husband was around & he saw your deck – i know he would offer to help you but he would say (as he often says to me…) “one thing at a time. you’ve already done so much. it will get done.”
sometimes my husband simple outlook on life is exactly what my highstrung personality needs!

  3. Oh Kellie you are so right. Or should I say your husband is right. I am impatient. I really want to get it to a stopping place before I start school again. I know that once that starts I won’t get anything done for a long time. Thanks for the reminder….it will get done. Lisa~

  4. The LORD is so good to remind us to count our blessings when we’re temped to throw ourselves a full blown, invite everyone including the dog pity party! Praying for continued strength to sustain you through the tough parts and a happy heart to enjoy your blessings. Big hugs!

  5. I love reading your stuff! How easy it is for us to start to feel down about our circumstances even though we are given so much! And how scary it would be if God really let us have what we deserve. The reality is that for most of us, even when life stinks it is still really good. We have so many blessings that we quickly shelve and take for granted, focusing on the few negatives.

It’s good that you can have this perspective when you aren’t on the precipice of a big loss. Sometimes its only when God starts taking things away that we realize how much we have!
