An Unexpected Trip

I usually don’t post twice in a day.

But as life goes….things change.

Last night my father had some serious chest pain. Mom called an ambulance. Off they went. Happy New Year to them.

I got the text at 4:00 AM. Dad was having a catheter (not sure of the medical term for this) at 9:30 to find out what was causing the pain.

By noon we knew. 90%-95% blockage in three arteries. Three stents and plans for more in a few weeks.

My oldest daughter and I made the four and a half hour drive and were here by 9:30 AM. But we had some car trouble and heavy fog along the way.

Tonight Dad is sleeping. At least sleeping as much as you can in CCU.

We are sleeping at my parent’s house. At least as much as you can sleep when someone you love has had a near death experience.

We’ll be here for a few days. Dad should be fine….it’s a wake up call for all of us.

I hope Dad doesn’t mind if I tell you….he had been having this pain for a while. He just didn’t want to tell anyone. If not for a mysterious incident with one of their dogs, he might never have told us. We came close to losing him.

I am making my first New Year’s resolution right now.

If I am having chest pain, or anything that might be something serious….I am going to tell someone that loves me.

Promise.

update: Dad is home now and resting. Thank you for all of your prayers!

second update: Dad had more chest pains inthe night and is back in the hospital. Keep praying. 🙂

  1. I asked your Mom when he would be well enough for us to get in line to spank him!!!

He now knows for sure how much God loves him, as do we all. Tony and I just thanked God again as this was too scary.

You all get some much needed rest.

  2. I know this very unsettling feeling and I'm very thankful for the medical care we have these days!
And that they caught this in time.

I've been there and more then that both my mom and my dh's mom on the same day for the same thing..stints and caths..both came out well. As your father will also.

Unfortantly ~ the statistic show more men have massive heart attacks then women because they don't pay attention to the signs and just brush them off..women are just more aware and in touch with our bodies.

And it is going to be a great new years he is still with you!!! Praise God!

  3. I'm so glad he's ok. I'm grateful God got him to a hospital. It is so stinkin' common for people to not say anything. To not want to bother people. To not want to go to the hospital for no reason. Very, very common. Wrong. But commong.

    Praying for you all!

  4. We will be praying for you and your father and that God will work in his heart – please keep us updated.
