Natural Health for Your Eyes
For the past several years as my eyes have aged, I have looked for ways to support them staying healthy. I decided to look into building up the health of my eyes naturally. After all, what could it hurt to try, right? I did a ton of research and found some ideas worth investing in.
I discovered three things that I decided to work with (I am sure there are more, but this is what I did). I guess I should have been scientific about it and tried them one at a time to see which one was the most effective. But I didn’t feel like I had time for that since my eyes were getting older by the day.
1. Frankincense. Yep, I can use essential oils for my eyes! But I can’t put them directly into my eyes. So what I do is every morning and night (2x/day) I put a drop into my palm and rub my hands together so there’s some on both hands. Then I cup my palms over my eyes and open my eyes as wide as I can, looking around to expose as much of my eyeball to the oil as I can. (note: if you try this you will feel a tingling and your eyes will water. This is supposed to happen as the frankincense molecules disperse, but it is not harmful.) Then I rub what’s left on my hands over my cheekbone just below my eyes and leave it on.
Truthfully, I was slow to start using frankincense because it was a stranger to me except for being a gift of the wise men to Jesus. But as I started to learn more and more about essential oils I would see it on many pages of my reference book as a suggestion for everything. No wonder it was a great gift for the King!
2. NingXia Red. This is one of Young Living’s best products! It’s a drink with wolfberry and several essential oils. Wolfberry has more beta-carotene than carrots and it’s high in antioxidants, which is essential for eye health. I only drink an ounce each morning, so one bottle lasts about a month.
3. Omegagize. I read a lot that suggests taking Omega-3 can really help with the health of your eyes, so I started taking it daily. It’s important to take a quality product and not just something from the supermarket. I completely trust the products from Young Living. You have to be careful who you buy these things from!
I have been doing all three of these every day for the past 3 months, plus I am sure to drink plenty of water, and I am amazed at how great my eyes feel! I can drive at night and my eyes are nice and moist. It’s been a surprise to me. Truthfully, I had very low expectations.
I will keep up this regimen and let you know if anything changes, good or bad.

This information is not intended to prescribe, diagnose or cure. This is my personal experience. I encourage you to take charge of your own health and educate yourself. You should address any health concerns with your health care provider.
I can completely empathize with you. I struggled with extremely dry eyes for a long time until I got punctal plugs — I had my tear ducts plugged so that my tears stayed on my eyes instead of draining out. I’m able to wear my contacts again (yay!) and only have to use drops maybe once every week or two. But, I still take fish oil as well. 🙂
Good luck with your regimen!
Thanks for sharing this. I have always had a dry eye/astigmatism issue. I Could never wear contacts, etc. and then I had LASIK 10 years ago, and oh my, it’s been awful! A pain or ache behind the eyes, having to wear sunglasses even on cloudy days, I can relate. I tried the thing with the frankincense and it did just as you said. I will have to try the ningxia red next.
You should probably try spirulina powder. Not only is a “superfood”, is also very rich in betacarotene and other antioxidants and rich in omega fatty acids. Not to mention 100% vegetable, so, vegan as well.
Oh, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this!!! I can’t wait to try this out!
