Tips for Storing and Stretching Your Essential Oils
I’ve been telling y’all about my essential oils and how much I love them. But once you get your oils, where do you keep them? How to take care of them? And what about carrying some with you….just HOW do we manage this new thing?!
Well have no fear…..Lisa is here!
The first tip I want to share is how to stretch those oils so they last longer. With a family of 11 and a tight budget, I need to stretch things as far as possible. So here’s what I do.
I get little rollon bottles and I fill them about 2/3 full with a carrier oil (I love Young Living’s V-6!). Then I add about 20 drops of essential oil (you can add as many drops as you want and you can even mix some together!). Pop the roller on and now I have an easy to use diluted oil! Bam!
The reason I have different size bottles is because where I buy them doesn’t always have the same bottles in stock. So I just get whatever they have. I’m not as picky as I seem.
If you get clear bottles, you want to cover them so the light doesn’t get to your oils. Light will decrease the efficacy of your oils (look at me using big words). I used washi tape for mine and it was so pretty that I put some on the amber bottles just because. Then I used my handy dandy label maker to finish the job. But you can just write on a piece of paper and tape it to your bottle if you’re not into supreme cuteness.
Abundant Health has carrying cases that fit these bottles, so when I travel I use that. It makes it easy to keep the real deal at home and just carry your rollons. I also have a teeny version that holds just enough to carry in my purse. It is the size of a change purse and very lightweight. And when you open it up in public people think you are some kind of crazy potion maker; don’t say I didn’t warn you.
OK, so now I have all of the bottles and rollons but good grief how do I manage them at home so they are easy to find and don’t fall over constantly? Do I have a solution for you!
I made shelves that will hold up to 10 bottles of Young Living Oils or 13 of the rollon bottles. AND I am so in love with them. You can look for these on Amazon as a spice rack, or message me privately if you’re interested in having us make you some. Get plenty of shelf space from the beginning. Once you get started with the oils you’re going to want them all! You can thank me later.
Here are all 4 styles stacked together in my bathroom. Look how easy it is for me to find the oil I want and keep them all neat and tidy. Plus it look nice…double score!
You can also find Nail Polish Organizers (affiliate) on Amazon that would work well for this.
If you’re looking for how to get started using Young Living Oils, click here and sign up! PLEASE keep it selected as Independent Distributor and not change it to customer. You don’t have to distribute anything (I never have!) but it gives you the discount prices and there are no obligations to sell or promote. You can be a distributor and only buy the oils for yourself. After you sign up and get your kit I will send you more info and we’ll get you started!
See ya!
Be sure to follow me on Facebook!
The “click here and sign up” link takes me to your etsy page, is it supposed to link to the Young Living Oils page?
Thanks Victoria! I fixed it. I appreciate you letting me know! Lisa~
I’m going to sign up and soon. I’ll have a bazillion questions when I do, so watch out!
LOVE that you covered the bottles with tape. Such a cute idea. I’ve been trying to figure out how to label them and make the look nice at the same time.
Just curious about the essential oils interaction with the plastic on the rollerball…? I thougth it had to be metal or glass instead of plastic.
I was curious about that as well Rose.
Plastics can be used if they are a high-grade plastic, as is the case with the rollers.
Also, your “my etsy shop” takes me back to your blog but the links for the chalkboard shelf do work and take me to your shop. 🙂
I would also like to see your esty shop. I am interested in buying the shelves but the link doesn’t take you there 🙁
What is the depth of the shelves?
I’m really excited about the “day in the life” oil posts! I’ve been going back and forth on whether or not I want to start using these, so I think this will be a great way to see how you and other bloggers are incorporating the oils into your daily routines.
Happy New Year/You, Lisa! I recently read in the “Quick Reference Guide for Using Oils” on page 45, #19: “When traveling by air, you should always have your oils hand-checked. X-ray machines may interfere with the frequency of the oils.”
Thank you so very much! I’m relatively new to the world of oils and just love learning about them and being frugal at the same time. Blessings to you!
Hi, I checked out abundant health… the prices were great for the glass containers, but then I got to checkout and the shipping was a little steep so I didn’t place the order. Have you had the same experience? Have you found it to be the best source even with the s/h charges? Thanks 🙂
Hi Lisa! I have a question about diluting oils – I dilute everything that’s recommended, but for something like Valor, which can be used neat, do you notice it decreasing in effectiveness? I use it for jaw pain, and it takes about 20 minutes for this particular oil to decrease symptoms for me. I want it in a roller bottle for easy access, but wasn’t sure if diluting it would make it take longer to help. Thoughts?
Stacie, I dilute everything unless I am using it for a serious situation. I asked the speaker at a Young Living class and she confirmed that the oils have the same effectiveness for normal situations. I think it would be worth a try. I use Valor for my bad headaches and I always use it diluted. That’s my thought. 🙂 Lisa~
I love this post! I tried this out last month after seeing how quickly I ran through a starter kit and then another full Everyday Collection. These roller balls LAST, I use mine everyday and I still have oil in them a month later! I even made a set just for my purse using the empty 5ml bottles and the roller ball attachments. Thanks for sharing this post. I LOVE it!!
I was wondering which would be better to dilute the essential oil with, coconut or jojoba oil?
I tried to click on your page to order the shelves, but I am not able to. Are they still available? Prices?
Hi, I am new to oils (just got my starter kit last week) and was super excited…. till I saw the price for reordering some of the oils (esp. frankincense!). This has been really helpful to know how to stretch them a little longer. Now I am wondering where do you get the little bottles and roll-on tops?
Oops, just realized that there was a link above for that! =)
