The Lazy Days of Summer

I meant to give a full report of my trip to Kansas yesterday, but then I slept the whole day and was all sluggish and lazy.  If I had tried to write then it would have read like some alien language from a sci-fi novel.

I’m more alert today, although I still overslept this morning and I am thinking of going down for a nap again in a minute.

Last week was exhausting.  I’m not really sure why because I basically sat for 7 days.  But I can’t seem to recover.  From the way I am acting you would think I ran 3 marathons and stayed awake for 72 hours.  I can’t think, can’t wake up, don’t even try to ask me what’s for dinner.  James walked into my room last night as I was sitting in my recliner staring blankly at the walls and asked me what my dinner plan was.  I barely turned my head in his direction and replied, “I don’t understand the question.”

Let’s just call this fend-for-yourself-week.

I did finally manage to pull myself up last night and go to the grocery store.  We were low on everything and the children were begging for fruit.  Who can resist a child asking for an apple?  It’s just so pitiful.  So I took 3 kids to do the heavy lifting while I went around the store getting my diet food.  I started a new diet this week in an effort to take better care of myself.  I know, I know.  I have said that before.  It’s going to be a lifelong battle I guess.  But what else do I have to do?

While I was gone James and Jacob took their law school finals.  I am so glad they have that behind them so we can start talking about something besides abandoned property and liability at the dinner table.  My 10 year old is starting to ask about his legal standing when I correct his manners.

The girls and I had a great time in Kansas, except that I got sick at the end.  I spent the last full day just relaxing instead of working, which actually helped me make the long drive back home.  I was not built to sit in front of a computer for days on end.  My eyes were beginning to glaze over.  My hind-end was sore from sitting  So I looked around for things to do in Kansas City in my GPS and just wandered.  It was nice.

I’ll be sleeping some more this week then heading to Dallas on Friday for a meeting.  Then the next weekend I head to Houston to go to the Teach Them Diligently Marketplace.  Lots of driving.  I need to find some good audio books to get me through since I am off of sugar and carbs to keep me awake.

What’s been going on in your neck of the woods?

  1. I hope you are able to revive and get back to ‘normal’ soon – it does take it out of you to be away from home and not feeling well away form home is somehow much more draining than when you can just recuperate in the comfort of your own home!

  2. Seriously, have your iron checked. The first symptom that mine is low is that I cannot stay awake or muster up energy. I get iron infusions (an IV drip) that takes about 3 hours. It’s hard to sit that long but I feel like a new woman the next day; and the infusions last for about a year – sometimes longer. (taking iron pills and other remedies don’t work for me.)

  3. Perhaps your tiredness is from your new “diet”? I prefer to call it a lifestyle change, but anyway…maybe you are detoxing from the processed foods and sugars? Try making your own trail mix. We use different kinds of nuts (peanuts, almonds, walnuts, pecans and raisins). We are currently on a nutritional program that does NOT include and pre packaged foods…only fruits, veggies, nuts, seed, meat, chicken and fish. Absolutely, no processed sugars, we only eat honey and fruit for sweeteners. We have been eating this way for about a year and a half.
Good Luck, on your diet…the first week or two was the worst for us. You are going to feel great!!!
