Week Two Check-In

If you’re following me on my “get fit” journey I hope you’re ready for a long road.  This morning as I got on the scale and prepared myself.  It had dropped.  One. half. pound.

Yep, that’s it.  No fanfare, please.

The funny thing is, I’m not disappointed.  My goal is to get healthy.  I am thinking in my expert self-analysis that if I change what’s happening on the inside then the outside will reflect that.  I’ve done several quick weight loss programs in the past and I lose weight, but I can’t wait for the misery to end, then I gain it back.

So this time my strategy is different.  Change my habits, slowly instead of being drastic, until I am more healthy.

For the past 2 weeks I have exercised 6x each week.  I have cut sugar out of my diet and starting today I will no longer eat after 7:00PM.  This is going to be another difficult change.  But if I, the world’s most stagnant person, can start to exercise then surely I can do this too.  It will take some getting used to though.  Last night I ate dinner at 9:15.  {shame}

As far as the slow weight loss, I am going to try paying more attention to my portion sizes and cut them back a little more.  I can do that pretty easily I think.

So that’s it.  Week 2 done.  I’m know this will take a lot longer than 42 days, but really that’s OK.  I’m going to get there.

How are you doing on your journey to fitness?

  1. Good for you! I’ve been using the “My Fitness Pal” app for my journey. 14 lbs. in 8 weeks so far, though I may have lost some ground with Mother’s Day weekend treats. Slow and steady wins this race I think! Keep up the good work!

  2. Eight months later… I’m down 13.6 pounds. Slow by any standard but I’ll take slow and steady if it’s a more permanent loss. Some weeks are better than others, but each day we must strive for activity and health. We can do it!

  3. I’m so proud of you! I’ve been trying the same life-overhaul type changes but am frustrated by the slow results. I guess those pounds are supposed to stay off if they leave slowly, right? And I didn’t gain the weight in a month… I’m pretty good about eating decent portions, good quality food and at the right times during the day, but I put off exercise and too easily justify “treats”. Best wishes on your journey!

  4. Great job with the consistency!! I told my husband today that I exercise to be healthy and feel great…the weight loss, when it happens, is a happy side effect. =)

    I joined a weight loss/get healthy challenge at the beginning of the year (2 rounds actually, 8 weeks each). I lost a total of 19 pounds during the 16 weeks. It was slow and lots of hard work, but the accountability and group support kept me going. Using My Fitness Pal taught me A LOT about portion control! It’s a great tool. I still have about 10-15 pounds I’d like to lose. I’m currently on week 4 of the c25k training program. I promised my daughter at the beginning of the year we would start running…I praise God for His mercies every time we finish a run! =)

  5. My family would recommend the book and eating style of Trim Healthy Mama by Serena Alison and Pearl Barret. Once understood, it is so simple, and everyone likes the food. In fact, a lot of the food isn’t much different then what you would normally eat – almost nothing is unacceptable, there’s just a different way of working things. Sweets are made differently, not excluded, and we are dropping pounds over here with no effort. 16 lbs down in 6 weeks. There’s also a simplistic way of involving your kids on the same diet, even if they don’t need to lose weight. Several of my family members have tried losing weight before with little to no effect, but this is changing our entire family.
    Good luck with the journey! 🙂

  6. I lost 2 pounds this week for a total of 3. Even though the scale isn’t showing big numbers, I know that I’m getting healthy. Exercise was a priority this week, I drank more water & I slept better. I’ve had really bad insomnia the last 6 months & I haven’t had 1 night with insomnia issues this week! I’ll take it!

  7. I just liked your fb page. I am having the hardest time just getting started. I think constantly about how I don’t like the pounds I’ve gained (and I know it’s not a bunch but it’s more than I like and I can’t seem to get on track ) but then food calls my name. Especially at 9 pm when I’m blogging and starting to think about unwinding. Ugh. Why is it so easy to gain and so hard to lose? I’m completely convinced it’s about lifestyle change and hitting 50 should be my wakeup call. Phooey 🙂
