Embracing Modesty, No 15

Since I’m gone this week I’m going to show you a few of the cute outfits my girls have been wearing.  They always look so cute and they really do embrace the boundaries we set.  It’s their heart for the Lord that shows through in the clothing they choose.  I’m blessed every day by their willingness to be modest and their excitement for finding ways to dress and still express their individuality.

Grace loves a hat and scarf.  It’s her way of adding her own style to each outfit.  Plus she’s challenged herself to tie her scarf a different way every day.  As the spring weather is upon us she took one last opportunity to wear these before they go into winter storage.

Hope, like I’ve said before, is my beach style girl.  Her love for nature is reflected in her style.  Plus she looks so cute in the corals and sea greens!

Faith is the trend setter.  Give her an old shirt and she’ll rip it up and make herself something funky.  This skirt is a prime example.  She made it with an old skirt of mine.  Then she made the necklace with the scraps.  I believe this bracelet is just strips she wrapped around her wrist.

And then there’s Patience.  She’s the songwriter in the family.  Her sister gave her this shirt for her birthday and it’s perfect for her.  If you’ll notice, the shirt is shorter than she wanted, so she just layers another one under it.

And here’s one more of Patience…just because she’s such a cutie pie.

Many of you have let us know that your daughters are enjoying the series.  We are just thrilled about that!  A few of you have even tagged me in pictures of your daughters on Instagram.  My girls LOVE seeing them!

See you next week when I show you what I wore to the conference this weekend.  I’ve got to do a lot of mixing and matching when I travel or I wouldn’t be able to fit everything in one carry on!

Check out the rest of this series in our Embracing Modesty Gallery!

  1. They are all clearly adorable, but I am TOTALLY digging Faith’s style! …and those socks on Patience ROCK!!!

  2. I love all the girls outfits, and love how they each have their own style. Patience’s in this post are my favorite, though I tend to lean towards Faith’s style myself. 🙂 Thank you for these posts – many enjoy them! 🙂

  3. Lisa,
All your girls are so cute! Faith should start designing trendy and hip clothes for young girls are modest! Her first job could be the girls dept in Target;)

    1. Amen! Tomorrow my daughter turns 9 and I was at Target yesterday looking for a possible gift. I came away with zero! Just because the women are wearing something doesn’t mean a child should wear it. These skirts that are short in the front and long in the back for a little girl? Just not practical in my opinion…

  4. I LOVE the socks that Patience is wearing! I totally just bought striped leg warmers (in manly colors) for my soon to be here new baby boy. My husband is not thrilled, but I think he will look adorable :).

P.S Tonight my daughters and I made your granola! Yum! And it had the added bonus of making me feel domestic!

  5. I love seeing how your girls express their personal style within the bounds your family has set. They are all so cute. I agree with the comment above … Get busy designing, Faith! I have had such a hard time finding skirts and dresses for my 12 year old. She can fit into juniors, but there is hardly a skirt or dress available that I find modest enough. And with her long legs, the girls dept. is about out of the picture. Sad that it is so hard to find modest clothes for tween girls.

  6. Amazing how y’all can put together such cute outfits AND still be modest! Love seeing new Embracing Modesty posts in my e-mail inbox!

  7. ALL SOOO CUTE!!
I haad to chuckle about your carry-on comment. I’ve made 5 trips to China 2+ weeks each, with only a carry-on=)…..but here at home, a short trip fills up the whole vehicle=).

  8. I’ve read through this whole series, and while I thoroughly admire your conviction and sense of self, one thing confuses me. Your son’s restrictions are never mentioned. The entire series is about rules for your daughter’s attire, but your sons seem to have free reign. If pants draw attention to a woman’s private parts, they most surely do draw the same attention to men’s private parts. If this double standard has a Biblical root, I am unaware of it – in fact I very much doubt if anyone wore pants at all in Biblical history.

As a matter of curiosity, how do your daughters play sports? You mentioned they are “sporty” but I can’t imagine jogging or playing soccer or doing ballet in a long skirt.

    1. Hi Beth, you assume because I don’t mention the boys that they have free reign. This is not true. We do have standards of dress for the boys. That’s just not what this series is about. But there are differences in the boundaries of men and women. They have unique issues and we do address them separately. But we definitely have standards of dress for the guys as well!

As for sports, our family isn’t involved in any sports. In using the term sporty, I was referring to their personal style of dress. But when we do things that require bending or jumping, etc. we wear leggings and a shorter skirt (maybe just below the knee). It works just fine. 🙂

      Thanks, Lisa~
