It Never Ends as Easily as I Would Like
It was one of those weekends that seemed longer than 2 days. We got lots done and had plenty of down time too. Looking back, I’m not sure how we did it.
Saturday I got up early and got my shop orders filled. Our little Valentine’s Day mailboxes are flying out of here, which put me in the mood to get up my own decorations. I have a bunch of new ideas and my brain was going to explode if I didn’t get them out. I spent the afternoon covered in red hearts and glue.
I also worked on my big chalkboard. I’m having great fun doing word art (if you can call playing around with a piece of chalk and absolutely no idea what I’m doing art) on the chalkboard for each season.
While I was doing that the kids were getting the house clean and making an effort to finish putting away everything from the room reorganization the weekend before. All week long I have been taking about 15 minutes each afternoon to put a few more things away. I think we are finally getting there. I am down to a pile of stuff in my bedroom that I’m not sure what to do with. If it’s still there in a week I am going to just throw it all in the trash. It would be too easy to just throw it all away now. I like to complicate everything.
Yesterday we spent most of the day just hanging out and playing games. I overcooked some brownies and we all relaxed. We played Bible Cranium and let me tell you, it’s funny to see a 9 year old try to charade the parting of the Red Sea.
After dinner James told me he was ready to have our monthly money talk. I never care for the monthly money talk, but I know it needs to be done. Like cleaning the bathroom….with less water and more crying. So we sat down and he handed me a printout with 3 columns across the top. The first one was called, “Budget.” He turns to me and says, “OK, let’s start. Do you know what the word budget means?”
Uh-oh. This was going to be a much longer talk than I had expected. If he’s defining budget, what’s next? Bank Account? Wallet? Please don’t make me do this.
About an hour later I was fully informed as to where our money is going and what the plans are for the next month. Whew! I made it without one snarky comment or rolling of the eyes. It actually went pretty well considering my ignorance.
I sat back in my recliner, thinking the hard part of my day was over, but no. Noah was waiting for me to help him with his ipod. He just bought it after 2 years of saving and it wouldn’t let him into his itunes account. It kept asking us security questions that we didn’t know the answers to. I mean, we should know the answer to, “Who was your first teacher?” All homeschoolers remember their first teacher, right?! Nothing worked. Mom. Mommy. Lisa. Lisa Pennington. The lady that nursed me for a year.
I spent the next hour and a half with him trying to figure out what to do with this problem. Google searches, apple help, finally we found a blog post by a guy that had the same issue and he gave a trick to make it work. We tried it and voila! We were in. (If you need this tip let me know and I’ll email it to you. It’s too long to put here)
So now that we’re all Valentinesy and money managed and ipod loaded…..I am ready to head into the week.
Have a great day!
