Being Cold and Make Plans
I’ve been taking a little break from everything but home/family. The shop has been closed, I’ve been barely blogging and we’ve played a LOT of games. I thought I would spend this time re-organizing and moving some things around. But I actually spent it sleeping. I think I have slept more in the past week than I did in the entire year 2012. Apparently I was tired.
We did get the Christmas decorations put away and a few small areas cleaned up. I also made my annual “tax season projects” list. It’s a long list….I hope we can get it all done. We will be moving boys around and changing how we manage the Legos. Legos have taken over 2 rooms in our home and I am up to here with it. So I’ve calculated a plan. We’ll see if it works.
My list also involves a lot of painting. We can only really paint rooms during tax season when James is out of the house 24-7. He can’t take the fumes…and it doesn’t matter if it’s low VOC or not. He is so sensitive to paint smells that he will complain of a headache if I am painting my fingernails 2 rooms away. So if we don’t get the rooms painted before April 15 it has to wait another year.
To end our holiday rest with a bang, I took 3 of the kids to Sea World yesterday. We won 4 tickets, so we decided to make a day of it. Faith, Patience, Noah and I headed to the big city to spend the day together.
As you can see we were wearing light jackets, nothing too warm. As the day progressed it got colder and colder. We started feeling a bit miserable about 2 hours in and we were all shivering….even me and if you know me in real life you know that I do not get cold. Ever.
I don’t know if it was the temperature or just the fact that there was no way for us to get warm, but by the time we left my teeth were actually chattering and even with the heat blasting on us in the car I could not get warm. Although I do want to say that Sea World was awesome and if we’d had the brains to bring warm clothes it would have been a nearly perfect day.
My little actors….I held up my camera and said, “Look cold,” and this is what they came up with. Noah appears to be in shock. Are they cold, or are they frozen with fear?
The rest of the evening and into the night I felt bitterly cold. Even now, 14 hours after getting home I feel chilled. I must have just gotten too cold….down to my core. Of course, it doesn’t help that we keep our heater set at about 58°. I’m sure I will warm up eventually. It has given me a fresh sympathy for those of you who say you feel cold all of the time. It’s good to walk in another man’s shoes every once in a while.
This weekend I am planning to start prepping the house for the upcoming projects. There’s a lot of work ahead. I may need a few more naps before we get started. I’m not sure I am rested enough for this list.

Picture = so great!
I hate getting cold but cannot help but sigh…….here in country South Australia we are sweltering in 44 degrees (111 F) today. We are in the middle of a heat wave above 40 for a week……eek even our Swimming lessons have been cancelled due to Fire Danger. Could do with Ice here!
We have the same issues with Lego……sigh, I have finally yielded my pipe dream of a formal lounge, and so the kids happily compose music in one end of it….which has gradually been transformed into a (gulp) studio complete with computers, keyboards, now hubby is talking about lining it so they can record (double gulp)…….and the other end separated with a couch succumbs to Wii Remote/game fallout and Lego debris…….I mean crates full of the stuff!!!!!!!
We should have a Linky party on lego debris!!
One day I will get my dream of a formal lounge but for now, yield to the peer/family pressure and go with their dreams while they are here writing music, and still interested in Lego! A house is primarily a home in the long run…..use, adapt, rearrange and start again!!!!
Looking forward to your Lego solutions! Might inspire me!
I love the kid’s expressions. They are so cute!
Hear-hear! I second Cathy’s suggestion! Link party on lego debris. We just bought our kids 13 pounds of legos on Ebay for Christmas. Probably doubled their lego stash. There are legos all over the house, though they re supposed to only be in the basement. Sigh. I am thinking of putting them in the boys’ room with a big table to build on.
Oh, please do share your plans for the Legos! Every one of my kids – even the two yr old – LOVES Legos. We have limited space for anything, toys included, and they collect more and more Legos from doting grandparents. (We even have many of them stashed in the shed for now because of lack of space for the shear number of them!!) I’ve tried different solutions in the past, but nothing has worked well over time.
Hope you’ve warmed up by now. 😉
