31 Everyday Ways to Connect with Your Child, Day 12: Memorize Together

When you’re trying to make a meaningful connection with your child, memorizing Scripture is a great sharing activity.

Choose some easy ones, 1 Corinthians 16: 13-14 or Ephesians 4:32.

Let your child choose one that she would like to memorize together.  Then work your way up to longer verses.  Make it a fun thing you do together everyday, repeating the verses and see who remembers it best.

Knowing you are working to learn them right along with her will encourage your child to challenge herself to remember.  If it’s hard for her to memorize, spend a couple of weeks on the same verse.  Write it in the fridge and around the house to keep it fresh.  Set your ipod alarm for 4:30 everyday and then each say the verse when it goes off.  Say it together when you’re having dinner with the family.

It’s a joy to memorize together.  And it will be in her memory long into her life.

What are some of your favorite verses to memorize?

  1. Our favorite Scripture memory songs are from GT and The Halo Express CD set. I still sing those songs and love them. Each song is different and catchy.

  2. I like to quote some we’ve learned in prayer. So when we are heading out the neighborhood in the car I’ll start to pray by taking notice of the beautiful day and thank Him and say, “The heavens declare the glory of God. The skies proclaim the work of His hands.” Or “As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.” If it’s one they know they will repeat it with me. 🙂
