Making a List and Checking it Twice

We piddled around this past weekend.  I had a list of 20 things that needed to be done and I got exactly 1.75 of them completed.  I’m not sure why.  It felt like I was working the whole time.  But then, I am counting sitting in my recliner reading blogs and checking Facebook as work.  So that may be part of the problem.

The single item on the list that I did get completely checked off was building a shelf for Faith’s desk.  She brought me this picture a few weeks ago and said, “Mom, can you build me this shelf?  I need a way to organize my little things.”

I told her to make a slightly simpler version….with about half of the number of shelves and then we’d build it.  This isn’t NASA kids.  Mommy can only build things that have simple measurements and no real figuring involved.

So she simplified the drawing and we built it together.  Faith, Noah and I worked on it yesterday morning.  I would make a few cuts and hand them the pieces. They would put it together while I worked on another project and we kept going like that until the shelf was finished.  I didn’t finish my other project because the heat was making me feel like I was going to pass out any second.

I was so hot that I texted my friend Sara and told her that if she really loved me she would bring me some Sonic ice.  With James out of town I don’t have anyone to rescue me when I nearly die of heat exhaustion.  So Sara went to Sonic, bought a whole bag of Sonic ice and brought it to me.  She kindly informed me that she does love me but that this bag of ice better last me all week because she wasn’t going to get me anymore.  Now why didn’t James think of that?  I was happily satisfied and will be sucking down ice for the rest of the week.

And before you get too huffy about me asking Sara to bring me some ice, you should know that the project I was working on while Faith built the shelf is something I am doing as a favor for Sara.  Not that she owes me anything, but I was sure glad she came to my rescue!

With James gone this week we are redoing the girls’ attic bedroom.  We’ve been planning it all summer and the shelf is just the first step.  Today we’ll be painting the walls and making bedding.  Then we’ve got some cool ideas for making it fit their personalities and getting it all organized.

We like doing projects while James is gone.  It gives us the freedom to just work, work, work and not worry about family meals or stopping when he gets home.  I can stay up really late then collapse into bed without worrying about bothering him.  Plus he gets a little woozly with the smell of paint fumes so it’s a good time to paint.

It’s going to be a fun week!  Hopefully I’ll get some momentum going and get that list all checked off.

  1. I haven’t tried Sonic ice, but it sounds as though it’s great. However, if you really are ‘craving’ the eating of ice, did you know that’s a sign of seriously low iron? happened to me. I used to eat crushed ice ALL the time, and now that my iron level is up, I can’t stand it. Of course, if eating Sonic ice is wrong, you don’t want to be right, right? 🙂

    1. Robin, I have heard that and it makes sense because I struggle with my iron levels. I am always very low and it keeps me low energy. But my doctor is working with me to get it to normal levels. If it is true I will miss my love of Sonic ice, but I sure won’t miss being so tired all of the time! Thanks. 🙂 Lisa~

  2. This is so great! I am the one who gets whoozey from paint fumes but as long as I can open the windows it is okay… any maybe order a pizza. 🙂

I have had the instagram app on my phone for, mmm, a while now and never even set up my account… so yesterday I set up the account but not before I was able to get a picture of our 13 year old with his head out the window with his tongue hanging out like a dog. 🙂 So now I am following you! sorta, well once I finally get verified and all that good stuff. so thank you!

Have fun with the girls, the room, and the sonic ice! 🙂
