Taxes and Easter Eggs
It was a nice, quiet weekend here at The Point. As we round the corner to the end of another tax season, our family focus is getting James through the next 8 days. We feed him and clean out his office and pet him, kind of like he’s in the zoo. Come to think of it, he does kind of act like an animal.
Tax season is rough on my CPA husband. He works like a machine and his eyes get all glazed over and he can’t think clearly. I do OK at taking care of his physical needs, but my friend Michelle at The Excellent Wife reminded me to PRAY for my husband. So I’ve added that to the routine. Thanks Michelle!
He did peek out of his cage last night long enough to join us for our Easter dinner and little egg hunt. I made burgers and we ate outside just like Jesus’ disciples did.
(L-R) Patience, Elijah, Noah, Jacob, Levi, Adam, Hope, Faith, Grace, James. Whew!
Then everyone under the age of 18 searched for eggs. Don’t ask me how I decided to cut it off at 18. It was arbitrary. I just got tired of filling eggs so I stopped.
I wrote their names on the eggs. If you found an egg with someone else’s name on it you had to leave it. They each had 6 eggs – 4 with candy, 1 with money and 1 with a note from mom about Christs’ love for them.
Jacob hid the eggs for me, which of course, meant that no one could find them. That will teach me to ask a 20 year old male to hide anything. Apparently he thought it was a life or death situation. Like if anyone found these eggs the world would end. Even with each kid only looking for 6 eggs we hunted for over an hour. I finally called the whole thing off when Jacob himself couldn’t find some of them.
We had a good time. James kept torturing the little boys (his favorite pastime, why do men do this?), I took pictures and the rest of the kids tried to find the impossibly concealed eggs. Family fun 101.
And now James is back to working 30 hours a day while we toss raw meat into his cage. Maybe I’ll write a love note in an egg and sneak it in there.
And pray…oh yes, I can’t forget that one!
Haha!! Your poor hubs – and those poor kids trying to find the eggs! I could see my son Ethan doing that at 20 years old. He takes everything seriously.
Hope your husband is doing better and we’ll send up some prayers for him, too, during this time! Just THINKING about all the numbers he’s crunching right now is giving me a migraine, so I need to go lay down. 🙂
I honestly think your blog is the funniest one out there!!! Funny and of course don’t forget informative. Perhaps you could help the zoo out by having sponsors and advertising on your blog? I think you’d make a fortune and you could do it in a way you’d be spreading God’s word. Don’t hide your light under a bushell remember. Anywho, just thought I’d add my two cents worth. Thank you for the sheer joy you bring to so many of us.
Your kids are so cute! When we have egg hunts, each kid gets assigned their own color to find. My hubby has become and expert at hiding them – so he hides them knowing the color coding and makes the younger kids eggs easier to find 🙂 Poor kids, this year we did virtually nothing – usually we fill the eggs full of money {coins and a surprise dollar here and there}. I can remember dating my hubby in college and his parents did an egg hunt and filled the eggs with some serious cash – let me tell you, we didn’t feel like we were too old to hunt for eggs!!

You are so funny! I think we’d be good friends in person. The Easter egg hunt description was hilarious. We had an egg hunt for the little ones – 3 kids– 4, 2 and 20 mos. I had a hard time with my “help” (27 year old son and wife) hiding the eggs. They wanted to make it hard for them to find — I reminded them none of these kids even knew what an Easter egg hunt is!
My husband isn’t a CPA but I understand the focus when big projects are due. Tossing raw meat into his cage — ROTFL!!!
One more week! You all can make it!
That is funny about Jacob hiding the eggs….Levi just keeps getting cuter – of course the whole family is very good looking!

Happy Easter to your family, glad you had a lovely time.
I am not sure my big boy would be too happy if I tell him he is too old for the egg hunt next year when he is 18- but it does make sense!
I laughed at The Egg Hider.
I agreed with the EGGcellent wife {couldn’t resist}. I’ve been writing out AND praying a different chapter each day from Stormie Omartian’s book (italics) “Power of a Praying Wife.” Some days I take my pencil prayer into his office, lay my hand on him and read the prayer aloud. He says he can’t tell me what a difference these prayers have made.
My hero.
Glad you had a lovely Resurrection Day celebration. Made me miss my children.
By the way, one year ago my Baby said, “I do.” God is so good to us to give us such a fine son.
Hugs,
Kelley
I remember when Kregg was working tax seasons. Yikes! It was intense! Glad he’s almost finished and will soon be restored to the loving arms of his family. 🙂
My husband is a CPA too and I appreciated this reminder! We are counting down too! Can’t wait for the 17th!
