The Flea Market

Yesterday was a mixed bag of flea market goodness and temperatures in the hot-as-Hades range.  Note to self: wear a hat next time.

I’m pretty sure I made that note to self last time I went, so the note system isn’t working too well for me.  Perhaps I should get a tattoo.

I did manage, through my heat induced stupor, to find some great bargains.  The main thing I was looking for was something to use as a laundry hamper for my new and improved laundry room.  In my mind I needed two hampers so I could separate my laundry.  In your house you may separate by colors or temperatures.  Here at the Point we separate into three categories….”disgusting”, “completely disgusting” and “somebody peed on this”.  I thought if I could put all of the laundry into something cute it would make the process of reaching in and touching the dirty clothes more enjoyable.

I found the perfect, PERFECT thing.  You won’t believe it.  It was as if the heat waves parted and we saw each other across a crowded walkway.  I rushed over to measure this beauty, made the deal and BAM.  It was mine.

I know, right?  What could be more perfect for a large family?

Once I had achieved my mission I went about looking for things for Shop 24.  Oh the ideas….fabulous vendors and incredible cleverness. I loved the setup at French Vanilla.

If I hadn’t been having a heat stroke I would have been motivated to go home and create.  Instead I was motivated to get into the car with the A/C blowing full blast up my skirt and find the nearest Sonic.  Ice.  I needed ice.

We all fell completely in love with House Wren.  Everything in there was to.die.for.

The metal containers with lights were everywhere.  If you want to buy one, you can go to House Wren.  They have a shop in Wimberly, Texas.

I have had this idea since I went to Round Top in April.  I just need to find some wire baskets.  Help me Funky Junk Donna.  You’re my only hope.

But this…THIS…was my favorite.  British Route Sign Designs.

The quality and designs were better than anything I could ever do myself.   But the prices were so far out of my range that I didn’t even dare touch anything.  I have, however, now become obsessed with having a chair like that.

After we finish school today I will be heading into my sewing room to tear apart the rest of the junk I bought and create new junk.  I will have a Diet Dr. Pepper and a large cup of ice nearby.  I’m done sweating for the week.

  1. “someone peed on this” – that is hysterical! I was running football carpool yesterday after practice…3 teenaged boys who have just played 3 hours of football in the 100 TX heat…let your nose run with that one. Pppphewww!!!

  2. You are my new guilty pleasure …
from hot as Hades (my 13yr olds fav saying) to blowing cold air up your skirt …
I just love you and your blog 😉
and that British stuff, to die for, and btw, I am British!

  3. *sigh* Oh, girl! You crack me up. Hope your morning went well. News flash– it’s almost over.

Wait, the day is just begun. Can’t wait to see what you’re up to!

Me? Boxes. Emptying boxes. It’s Christmas around here at the Loop! Yay!

  4. Angela, you win on the stinky laundry. Blech!

Nicole, why does it have to be a “guilty” pleasure? LOL! We must Skype. I want to hear your beautiful accent. I’m fascinated with accents because I sound like I come from nowhere.

Kelley, I would have thought this heat wave would have been over already! I am happy for you and your boxes. Hooray!

    Lisa~

  5. Now that is a flea market!!! Your neighbors over here in AR have nothing like that. In fact, my friends are driving over to Canton this week to shop….if I wasn’t 8 months pregnant and the mother of 4 more, I would hop in their RV and go with them. But, alas, someone has to feed, care for, and homeschool the youngins. I’ll just live vicariously through my friends who do get to shop really cool flea markets 🙂

  6. I am so glad you had such a wonderful time even if was hotter than Katie’s ducks! (yes that is how the saying goes here as I am notorious for hearing things incorrectly… trust me I had children before I realized the saying was “Hades ducks” so sad I know but it does make for great comic relief! you should hear me recite song lyrics, ha ha!) OH posh… I am sure you do NOT sound like you are from nowhere.
Oh doodles! I have sad news… I can’t flea market with you… actually my husband saw your loot (I was gonna say booty but having been around too many young males I try to refrain from using that word) and felt it would be safer for me to stay home… 🙁 But one of these days… 🙂
I know I’m not Donna but you could bounce your wire basket ideas off of me if needed. (i’ve been known to make one or two back in the day… before the internet and blogging… yes i’m a basket freak or case whichever you prefer, ha ha!)

Enjoy your upcoming weekend! And I’ll be praying that Katie and her ducks leave for places unknown. 🙂

  7. I can’t believe y’all are still having such intense heat down in Texas! I saw the weather report the other day and saw it was going to be 103 or some such degrees in San Antonio. Yikes! I have Texas blood on my Daddy’s side, but the temps…sigh. Although who am I to talk we who had 90’s until last month and high humidity…I just would do what you did – crank up the a/c in the car and head for Sonic! Best ice in town!

    I love your laundry cart/basket/vehicle….perfect.

  8. What amazing stuff….gorgeous stuff..and stuff to make you drool! Such a fun post….always love stopping by for a smile – or even a great and good laugh!!

  9. The heat: I’ve had it! I love my Texas-native husband dearly but I can’t count how many times this summer I’ve told him “I’m moving!” When he asks “where?” I say “North! I’ll stop when the temperature is below 80*!” Yesterday he told me there was a cold front coming…only gonna be 87*! I’m from South Dakota and he’s aware of this! THAT is NOT a cold front!
As for the British accent, I saw a sign on Pintrest that said something like “If I had a British accent I’d never shut up.” I wish I could just fake a good British accent…

  10. You are funny. 😀 No one else seems to have caught your Star Wars reference though… How strange.

And all things British are cool. *nods*
