Orange Bear Gets a Home

This week’s winners have been announced on One Month to Win It so I can tell you that mine was the home for the little orange bear.

The animal theme was very hard for me.  I don’t generally decorate with animals nor do I wear animal prints.  It’s just not my style.  I had a headache by the end of the week from trying to figure out what to make.

The abundance of Build-a-Bear things were getting out of control around here.  Since technically a bear is an animal I decided to make him an apartment as my project.  I dug through my storage building and found things I could use.

The heart bookshelf from the 80s and a bunch of old junk.  I ended up not using the blue suitcases, but I love them so much that I am going to make something else with them.

First I enlisted Faith to help me cover all of the hearts with cardboard and cover the shelf with burlap.  I had Jacob cut down a chalkboard that I nabbed last year at a garage sale for $3 and attached it to the back of the shelf.  I love having big helpers.  I am in serious trouble when the kids leave home because you know James isn’t going to agree to be my assistant.

We spray painted everything from the little drawers to the baskets and clothespins.  Orange Bear needed a colorful place to live.

Once we finished the shelf it was ready to decorate.  That was the fun part.  All of the little boys had ideas, none of which I used.

I use baling wire from our hay for everything.  Just shape it how I want and staple it on.  The little baseball holder was everyone’s favorite.

And of course I had to use my beloved Cricut.

That little blue “dresser” is from a popsicle box cut down and spray painted.

Yes, over the dresser is a Star Wars poster with Build-A-Bears in it.

It was a fun project because all of the kid helped me with it.

And the best part is that Orange Bear has been inviting all of his friend over to play.
