Top 7 Questions Answered
I’m so in love with these 70° days. I want to be outside in a hammock reading and listening to the boys playing. But I don’t have a hammock. Ours rotted a few years ago and we haven’t gotten another one. Since we’re in a no-spending pledge, I may have to get creative and make it myself. When I was about 10 years old I made one out of plastic six pack rings.
It took me a month to save enough rings and I wove them together and created the most uncomfortable hammock ever made. I’ll have to do something else this time, maybe old clothes or all of the computer cords we have lying around not plugged into anything.
But since I can’t lie down outside yet I thought I would take a minute and answer some of your latest questions.
1. Where does the ladder in your living room go?
The ladder leads to a loft that now serves as Jacob’s bedroom. We added the living room onto the house and I didn’t want to lose an inch of potential living space.
It’s a very small “room”, but when you’re one of 9 kids you are happy for any place to call your own.
2. It’s hard to find my way around your blog. Can you help?
Yes, yes I can! I’ve added a search feature to the bottom of the home page. Hooray! I’ve been playing with it for hours. I put in my kids’ names and some of your names and “President Obama”, which brought up a post about my toilet not working. Draw your own conclusions.
2. I dislike your CAPTCHA code. There I said it. It drive-a-me-crazy!
Your wish is my command. I removed the word verification. Now you can comment all you want without fear of having to read weird letters or be rejected.
3. For goodness sake, you make so many things for free. How much stuff do you have in your garage?!?!
I have a storage building that is FULL of junk. I keep piles of things that I want to use later…..and I actually use them! Look through your stuff and think about it in different ways. Remember you can use paint, decoupage, burlap, ribbon, crown molding and trim, sandpaper, etc to re-purpose your things.
old doors and a pallet
a weird wire basket frame
ugly old pitcher painted off-white
4. Will you come decorate my house?
You know what’s funny? Many times when I visit a friend we end up moving their furniture around. I love arranging rooms and I especially love use-what-you-have decorating. If I ever come to your house I will play with your stuff all day if you want. It’s one of my favorite things to do. You can pay me in chocolate.
5. How long will you be on your no-spending pledge?
I guess as long as the economy is bad we’ll be spending as little as possible. Times are hard for so many people. I’m learning to stop fighting it and accept where the Lord has us. And it really is kind of fun to challenge myself to find ways to save money and still freshen things up around here.
6. Two very special readers asked me, “When did your chickens get ipods?”
They got their ipods when they stole one of my credit cards out of my purse. Those pesky chickens. They really are a pain.
7. Where have you been featured lately?
OK, so maybe no one asked me that. But I have to tell you….Stephanie over at Crazy Domestic did a post about my piano. Thanks Steph!
There. Now you all can rest at night knowing the answers to these all important questions. If you have more, I’m ready to answer.
Now I have to go figure out what I can make a comfortable hammock out of.
Thanks for those answers – I saw you piano the other but forgot to comment on it, perhaps it was piano envy- I would love one- can’t play a note, but have some kids who would like to learn, but have no where to put one at present either.
PS. When you come for your little holiday to Australia to visit me some day, we can play with my furniture- that would be lots of fun!
We are kind of on an extra spending halt as well. It does give you an opportunity to look around at your stuff and see how you may be able to use it differently. I’m also having a purgefest. It’s so freeing. LOL!
Have a fabulous day.
Love this post, and even though I never complained about the captcha code, I’m happy it’s gone : -) And, if you swing by Brazil on the way to Australia, you can play with my furniture AND rest in my hammock afterward. You’ll have to bring your own diet dr. pepper, though, or else I can make you sweet tea or fresh fruit juices, ‘kay?
And — is there a way to write a review on your etsy shop??? I have a very good comment to share w/you about the family pillow you made me, but not sure where to post it/send it.
My favorite kind of decorating is rearranging and repurposing! It is great for my decorating budget (which is zero)!
I hope our chicken doesn’t get any ideas!
Thanks for removing the captcha code!
Your joyfulness is wonderful! I love how fun everything is to ya’ll! We only have 7 children, and I know what you mean about having to find places for them.
1. Someday I’m gonna climb that ladder just to see. 2. I totally get how obama and your toilet are connected. 2 #2. I never complained about the capcha code (that you would hear). 3. I need a tour of this shed someday. 4. It’s time we rearrange my house – particularly my living room. Bring your chainsaw. 5. We’re on pretty much the same pledge around here. 6. Could you give me the cell number of one of the chickens? I could use an iPod too… 7. It’s time to paint my piano. Let’s talk.
You crack me up. I thought the girls lived up the ladder, where are they? Have a good evening.

P.S. so excited thaat I am not going to have to do the letter number thing, yay
i desperately need you to come to my house.
Did you really make a hammock out of plastic six pack rings?? How in the world did you even come up with that idea?
Reader, you can leave feedback on etsy, but if you have a review I’d love for you to send it to me and can put it in a post. Thanks!
Sara, send me a picture of you and I will Photoshop an ipod in like I did the chickens.
Cha Cha, the girls are in another loft. We have several of them.
Lisa, I’d love it! When shall I come?
Autumn, yes it’s true. I did make a hammock from six pack rings. I don’t know how I thought of it, but I was very creative as a child. It was a problem for my mother. I was always taking apart things and re-making them or decorating her rooms. LOL!
Can I just say that your living room in this post makes me swoon. SWOON. The way it’s accessorized….your lovely update to the frame….love it all.
xoxo

dear One with the repurposing eye,
Thanks for answers to some ?’s I had too, but hadn’t voiced. Really love the ladder/loft/livingroom photos. WISH we could open up the area above our upstairs to do this….we have actually talked about it before. Just takes some ingenuity/time/money/…YOU know! Too bad our outbuildings aren’t full of usable-junk… instead of NOT so much. Hey, your burlap covered basket is great! And I use books everywhere….as risers, visual filler, etc. The red one under the lamp looks like it could be one I have too.
I also admire and am inspired by your no-spend-pledge. Feels good to be ‘helping’ in this way, as we are a one-income-family and I have had times when I wondered how I could contribute on that level.
As for the chickens with ipods? Well, the one lonely ‘lady’ out in our coop might just love that. Especially today, when we have snow and cold. poor dear. And then again, with new baby chicks coming this Spring she would be a bad influence on babies don’t ya think? Who knows where that might lead.
love,

Oh yes! Chocolate is the best pay!
OK, I gave you chocolate and you did not rearrange anything. What’s up with THAT??
I got a nostalgic laugh about your making a hammock out of six pack rings. My Grandmother washed out and kept bread wrappers. She had read an article in the Wichita newspaper about making a door mat. She reportedly did make one. I remember seeing the pile of washed out bread wrappers saved at her house. Thank you for the smile. I
