The Anderson Wedding

Just when you think life is going to slow down…..NOT.

The girls and I did all of the flowers for our friends’ wedding last week.  That would have been hard enough, but then I decided to get sick in the middle of it all.

I picked up all of the flowers on Wednesday and by late Wednesday night I was sick .as .a .dog.  (Why do people say that?  Do dogs get sicker than other creatures?  I’m puzzled by this.)

We set up our flower shop in the guest house.  I’d lie on the couch for an hour, then get up and make a bouquet or two, then lie back down….on and on it went.  Faith and Hope took mercy on me and came to the guest house on Friday and prepped the roses for the boutonnieres and corsages.  I just couldn’t stand up anymore.

We cleaned all of the flowers and divided them into what we needed for each bouquet.

Within a few hours there were 11 beautiful bouquets ready to be wrapped with ribbon.

The bride’s bouquet…..so pretty.

The whole wedding was Christ honoring.  I love this family and am so proud to call them my friends.

I realized at some point that my desire to make the flowers exceptionally beautiful was not because of my love for them, but my love for Christ.

If I was making flowers for Him, I would give everything I had to make them the most beautiful flowers anyone had ever seen.  So shouldn’t I do the same for my friends?  Sick or not…..press on and love through the adversity.

“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends”  John 15:13

Congratulations Bethany and Cody.  What a beautiful beginning to your life together.

  1. Dear Wonder-one,
Those turned out stunning! So sorry you were sick! Our dog is super-healthy so pretty much EVERYONE is sicker than him, most of the time!

You are a wonderful friend! This reminds me of my auntie who has 12 children… she and one of her daughters always does the flowers, the cake, the planning, the photography for each of her girls’ weddings… My Auntie always does all kinds of crafty/homemade things and the weddings are fantastic… someone commented to her recently that it’ll be so nice once her 9 girls are all married so she can have a break… she just looked at them and said, “Yeah, about that time my oldest granddaughter will be getting married!”

  2. What a gift! And an amazing job! Is that Hope in the wedding party picture? The colors are beautiful and all of the children make it so sweet (did you make the headbands too?)

If you aren’t taking vitamins, you need to go get some. The flu season is supposed to be really nasty this year. Arm yourself against all of those germs by keeping your immune system iron-clad!

  3. All the flowers were GORGEOUS! So sorry you were sick 🙁 The wedding was beautiful and the flowers were the perfect touch. I agree–LOVE this family, love their hearts and am so grateful the Lord brought them to our lives. Hope you get some rest this week!

  4. So beautiful! I tried to make an arrangement once and it ended up looking like a goat got in it.
I like the three colors of the dresses, too.

  5. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a wedding party that was actually so modest! Amazing and wonderful! Your flowers were beautiful too! I’m sure that God gave you the grace to get through it to honor Him 🙂

  6. Those flowers are absolutely lovely. Really beautiful. 🙂 I found it interesting how her bridesmaid/flower girl dresses were three different colors. Nice colors.

I’m sorry you were sick… that would only lend to the stress level. “Sicker than a dog” may have something to do with how violently a dog gets sick when it is sick. Have you ever seen a sick dog? 😉

  7. dear Flower Friendly,

Beautifully done! I enjoyed your thoughts about working with the flowers too. Many years ago (BC) I worked in a flower and art gallery in AK where we lived for a few years. I never tired of the fragrance and atmosphere of the shop. Learned a lot too, but I have never actually tried to do someones wedding or anything. I would love to help with that someday.

gorgeous flowers! so sorry you are sick. but can i say this – so glad you are sick now instead of later. 😉

get plenty of rest! drink water! eat some soup. stay inside.

    xoxo

  9. Oh!
    What a lovely day!
    The roses are amazing…
I’ll bet Jesus thought of us, too, when designing roses. he thought we’d adore them and their scent, so he swirled them and colored them so we’d see beauty. Amazing.
I love weddings. Especially Christ-honoring ones. They make me cry, joy tears.
I hope you are better now.
    Are you?
Thank goodness for Faith and Hope and mercy.
    Love, me
(I once designed hundreds of flowers into a bouquet and centerpieces for a friend’s wedding–an hour before the wedding! The florist couldn’t find the ceremony/reception location! It was at the top of a mountain…good thing I was early.)

  10. I am so happy to see a bride NOT wearing a strapless dress. My hope is that the new Princess Bride will be resetting the current bridal fashion trend as bare shoulders are frowned upon in the Anglican church.
