A Fifties Christmas
Last night was our homeschool mom’s Christmas party….fifties style!
Since I can’t do anything in a small way, I got myself a can of Aquanet and went to town…..
My yearbook picture, 1955.
OK, before I show you the rest of me, I want to establish that a felt poodle skirt adds 50 pounds and the camera adds 10 pounds. I trust you to subtract the pounds in your mind when you see these pictures….
Did the girls really wear these?
EEEK! I thought I saw James Dean!
What made the party such a blast was that everyone dressed up. There were poodle skirts, evening gowns, leather jackets and even one pair of leopard leggings that bordered on risque. I won’t show you those….this is a family blog.
We hung record albums from the ceiling, used silver tinsel trees as the centerpieces, had a hula hoop contest, ordered pizza and made ice cream sundaes.
It was rockin’!
You are “too cool for school!”
Where was this party held? Sounds like a blast!

Deanna, a local church lets us use their fellowship hall for all of our meetings. Lisa~
Oh what fun! And you’re beautiful even though the camera and poodle skirt add extra pounds.
You look really cute!
This just makes my heart happy. 🙂 Can’t wait to meet you in January!
Sounds like a great time,
I love it when people take the time to get dressed up and decorate for a party- makes them so much better in my opinion!
I sweat a little in my sleep and couldn’t get my head off the pillow this morning. It took 3 go-rounds of shampoo (2 of clarifying!) to get all the hairspray out…
It was a peachy keen affair indeed!
You look darling! How fun. And I love that you all went all-out with it.
You are just too cute!!! Any pics of Sara we can taunt her later with?? 😉 😉
You’re smashing, dahling! Love your “new” look, dearie! Merry Christmas, rockin’ mama!
You look adorable!! Love the hair…I just love it!!
You are such a doll!! So tell me again how I get in to one of these awesome homeschooling clubs? Apparently we are SERIOUSLY missing out. You have no idea how much I would have rocked that hula hoop 🙂
Lisa, You are adorable and I bet you were the hit of the party!! I once attended a fifties style party and a good friend’s mother loaned me her poodle skirt and penny loafers from high school . She had a trunk full of her clothes from the forties and fifties including her cheer leader outfit.
Hugs,
Sherry.
well did you get your hair cut? It looks shorter…or is it just all that aqua net?
You look GREAT…keep the glasses!
loveya!~
annies mom
You rock, around the clock! 🙂
You look adorable!!! Sounds like a super fun party!
dear “Those were the days…”
You look great! And what a great theme to play with.
I remember “50’s” day in highschool (late 70’s) I dressed in my moms poodle skirt, cashmere sweater, scarf, bobbysocks and saddle shoes. Oh, and a rockin’ ponytail and hornrimmed glasses. Need to pull out the old photo and see it again.
love,
Could NOT fit in that skirt today

Cute! Where did you find the glasses? Hey, I remember silver tinsel trees, and I wasn’t born until 67. But the tree was at my grandmother’s, so it probably was from the 50’s. I sat on a base that had lights shining thru colored glass, and the glass thingy spun slowly, so you got a groovey light show on the tree.
Hee hee! Thanks for the Monday morning smile and I totally relate as recently every item of clothing I have is also adding on 50 pounds. 🙂
