Black Friday with the Girls
The girls, Grandma and I survived our Black Friday shopping. We left the house at 5AM with a plan.
Target, Michael’s, breakfast at Chick-fil-A then the mall.
The temperature had dropped in the night and it was really cold. I’m a cold weather kind of gal, so that just added to my excitement.
The stores were really busy, but nothing our crew of experienced holiday shoppers couldn’t handle. The girls rummaged through clothes while I found some jewelry I needed.
Yes, “needed”. James doesn’t seem to understand the need for a new piece of jewelry. Why is this? After 24 years of marriage has he not heard a word I’ve said?
I’m a girl. I ate no carbs on Thanksgiving. There are blow-out sales everywhere. Those three facts add up to my needing a new necklace. Amen?
I loved spending this time with my mom and my four daughters. Mom and I get to pass along the lessons every woman must know to get through life.
1) If the only blouse in your size is on the mannequin, just yank that thing off the dummy and head for dressing room.
2) Things don’t have to match EXACTLY. Be flexible.
3) When you go to Anthropologie it’s best to have Grandma with you.
4) Wear clothing that you can take off and on easily.
5) Just because it’s on sale doesn’t mean you have to buy it.
See? It’s not just shopping, it’s life lessons. A passage into womanhood.
Getting a bargain, finding the right fit and eating at Chick-fil-A. If my girls go into the future with this knowledge, they’ll be OK. And believe me, by the way they were shopping, it’s obvious I’ve done my job well. Grace even chased after a shoe salesman for some boots. Makes a mother’s heart swell.
We were home by 3:00 and the best part, I slept from 4-6. Yes, 6:00 in the evening.
I have no idea what the children were doing during my long winter’s nap, but no one was dead or maimed when I awoke, so I didn’t ask.
I’d say that’s a pretty good day.
I love shopping with my daughters as well! Mine are 18 (19 on Jan.1st), 16, 11 and 8. The eight year old gets bored still, so she doesn’t go as often. What ages are your girls?
When you said “eat breakfast at Chick-fil-A I knew you were a kindred spirit for sure!
Glad you had such a great day with your girls!
Deanna! How fun. My girls are 20, 16, 15 and 13. All old enough to enjoy a whole day of shopping!
My diet kept me from actually eating at Chick-fil-A, but it was great to share it with my girls anyway. Lisa~
I too got to shop!!!!! with my 92 year old mom and 70 year old sister. Well, mostly they sat in different areas while I whisked about the stores. I took them to lunch in hopes that they got a second wind…it worked! thank goodness for those electric carts. but I have to tell ya, a 92 year old on an power cart in Michael’s is just asking for disaster.
I love your lessons I will have to remember to pass them onto my little girl when she is old enough LOL
By the way I had never heard of Black Friday until I read your post yesterday- thankfully Wikipedia supplied the answer.
I am so proud of you and this no carb thing, I am going in a different direction, one that has me becoming more fluffy. Hearing you talk about sticking with it makes me hope that I can learn to tust God in this area of my life also. It sounds like you, the girls and your mom had a blast, memories were made!!! How is your dad?
Have a great Lord’s day,
Cha Cha
Oh Lisa…you have me cracking up! I hope I would have been nice if a 92 year old ran into me at Target. It was cut throat there. LOL!
Deanne, you need to bring the family here for Thanksgiving one year. Come stay in our guest house, eat a traditional Thanksgiving dinner and then do the Black Friday shopping. You can count it as a school expense. 🙂
Cha Cha, thanks SO much for the encouragement. It’s been hard. But thinking of having my picture taken at Blissdom and having them put on other people’s blogs where I have no Photoshop control is motivating me! Dad is doing great! Thanks for asking. Love you! Lisa~
Lisa, You always make me laugh! What better bonding than taking the girls and mom shopping at 5:00 am. Sounds like everyone had a great time.
Hugs,
Sherry
Sounds like a good day to me – if you like that kind of shopping. 🙂
We slept in, cleaned house a bit, then we got a babysitter. And Tim and I went to see Harry Potter, ate supper at Panera, and shopped for a special gift for our oldest.
It was a good day. 🙂
