Wanted: More Sleep

I’m blogging to avoid going in the other room….where the kids are. All waiting sweetly, papers at the ready for school and learning.

Me, I’m hiding in my bedroom wishing I could sleep for one more hour. Why does it always feel like one more hour would be enough? I’ve had 6 hours already…..would another make me feel completely rested?

Saturday’s seminar went well. I learned a lot about what I would and wouldn’t do the next time. I was amazed at how interested these beautiful women were to hear what I had to say. They were exuberant with questions (OK, my brain is waking up). I have so many new ideas for my next few talks. God is good!

What I was unprepared for was the exhaustion and heaviness that followed. I expected to be tired. But it was more like a spiritual exhaustion. I had prayed so much for these women. I have a greater appreciation for people that take on the role of speaker/teacher. It is not as easy as it looks.

I was so wiped out that I decided to spend yesterday doing little jobs that require sitting. I organized my photos on my computer caught up on most of my emails. I even got a few new songs on my ipod. I’m looking for more music. Christian, uplifting, etc. If you have any suggestions I’d love it! Who do you listen to? I also like country music. That new stuff that’s less, “Bring me a beer ‘cuz m’baby left me and m’truck ain’t new anymore,” and more like, “I love my family and America.”

It was nice to sit in my recliner on Sunday and talk with my kids. “How are you?” “How have you been for the past three weeks?” “I’m sorry, what is your name again? You want to do what tomorrow? School?”

I guess I’d better emerge from my cocoon/bedroom. I went in last night as tired, sleepy, grumpy mommy and I will emerge…uh oh. The same.

Maybe that extra hour of sleep is a good idea.

Happy Monday!

  1. When I am worn out and I need something uplifting I love to listen to Selah. They encourage my spirit. But when I have a horribly messy kitchen and I need to jump in and clean it I like tobyMac. A little more upbeat.

  2. Hubs, Me and the Youngest are seriously into Newsboys. I just found out about Matthew Smith and Indelible Grace two weekends ago. My oldest daughter’s best friend’s Mom invited us. I found out is her husband’s favorite group. I’ve been meaning to blog about it because I love what they are doing….

    Matthew Smith’s website: http://www.matthewsmith.us/
Indelible Grace: http://www.igracemusic.com/ (this website talks a lot more about the purpose of their efforts – having been raised in a very traditional reformed church I appreciate what they are doing).

I know about sheer exhaustion. I get it after photo shoots. I invest so much emotional energy into a photo shoot that I usually need a nap. I must say I am discovering teaching to be that exhausting too. Maybe it is because I am an introvert and not an extrovert.

  3. Remembering Elijah’s victory at Mt. Carmel. It was followed by exhaustion. God came to him and encouraged him and then got him ready for his next assignment. I pray He is doing the same for you – encouraging, helping you rest, reconnect with your family and preparing you for your next assignment! The weaker we are, the more of the glory goes to the LORD! Big hugs…and lots of coffee!

  4. We love to listen to Ernie Haase and Signature Sound. They are a gospel quartet. You know that southern gospel sound. The kids love their music too. http://erniesigsound.com/
Another great option for christian country music is Gordon Mote. He is an extremely talented pianist and singer. He is also blind and gives all the glory to God for his amazing gift.

Hope you are feeling more rested tomorrow. I’ll pray for just that!

  5. Greetings!

  7. Our family loves, loves, loves Fee! It’s great to exercise with or clean house with or just to blast in the car when you want to be loud with a purpose (to praise God :D)
My mom is much more up to date on Christian music than I am and she really likes Down Here. The lead singer sounds an awful lot like Freddy Mercury (of Queen fame) but he sings about Jesus. I have really enjoyed their stuff at her house.
My old standby is Rich Mullins album Songs. He has gone Home which somehow makes his music even sweeter to me.

  8. I really love Nickel Creek. It sounds Hill country to me for some reason.Alison Krauss, is nice too. Some of the songs are not my favorits but her singing voice is….well all I can say is wow.

  9. Just wanted to encourage you Lisa. I was one of those women who was so blessed by your talk on Saturday. You may be exhausted, but you have renewed my energy and enthusiasm to return to my family and continue the journey the Lord has placed us on. Thank you for pouring into my life and the lives of the other women present. The Lord truly used you to encourage us! Thank you!
