My Spiffy Lockers

I’ve been monogramming my little fingers to the bone this week.

Graduation gifts, camp items, birthdays, weddings, christenings……

How sweet to be a part of someone’s gift.  I love to pray for the giver and the recipient as I work.

I’m also working on new covers for my sofa cushions.  I can’t wait to show you all the changes in my living room.  It is really looking spiffy!  (Did I just say spiffy?  I need a new word.  Maybe one from this century.  Anyone have a current rapper-style word I could use instead?)  I’m going to make myself wait to show you until I have the couch all finished.

I know….I really want to show you.  But I am determined to wait.  Huh?  Oh yes, I could show you the freshly painted lockers.  I am so happy with the way they turned out.

Remember before?

After painting, I moved them into the living room and now they look like this:

I got a lot of suggestions for paint color.  Black was the winner.  I thought that would be best too, so I bought black paint.  Then I got this comment from Laura Ingalls Gunn (decorator extrordinairre), “If you would like the lockers to be a focal point then paint it a contrasting color (black~bronze).
If you would like to appreciate the lockers more quietly then paint them the wall color or white.”

I knew I really wanted them to be quietly appreciated.  I’m into doing anything to add quiet to the house.  So I returned the black and got white.  I am so glad I did.  Especially since I decided to move them into the living room.  My goal is to calm the room down and I think the white helps with that.

Notice the locker baskets on top?  Those are the three I have been saving for my desk/buffet idea.  Once I find two more and I will be ready to start that project.  I also need to work on the height of the lockers.  Maybe I’ll build a base to make them taller.  That could be cute.  Hmmm….another idea to toss around in my head.  It’s a dangerous place up there in my mind.  There are a lot of useless ideas going round and round in there.

OK, I’d better get back to my monogramming.  It’s tight homey.  No?  Doesn’t work.  I need help.

  1. First of all, white was the PERFECT color choice! I have a set of lockers in our entry way – never thought to use them in the living room, but yours look great!

Second – the exterior work on our house isn’t done. It still looks the way it did 2 years ago. After we started raising turkeys, hubby has so very little time to work on the house. We are hoping that after 2 more flocks, we can afford to hire the siding done. Hopefully later this summer!

  2. I think they are seriously SPIFFY! Bodacious? Clever? Nifty? I KNOW – how about ‘snifty’ (super nifty!)? Whatever word you choose, they look great.

Thanks for the tease on the sofa…you’re killing me! Went to HomeGoods today (thought of you) and guess what followed me home? That spiffy white plate for $5! Love it!

  3. OK, I know, I know. I voted for RED. But wisely, you did NOT listen to me. they look wonderful! I found some of those OLD locker baskets at the Fredericksburg flea market, over in the back where the junk kinda sits. They still had the numbers on them. I couldn’t find anyone to price them for me, so I walked around the block, when I came back, they were GONE. I have mourned since. I can’t wait to come home and visit that flea market again.

  4. First the piano and now the lockers. Oh my. Why didn’t I see your blog a long time ago before I passed up on all this great opportunities I had. I won’t pass them up again. The baskets are way, way cool. Girl, you got style.

I love what you said about being a part of the gifts you give to people and how you pray for them. You are too sweet.

Thanks for looking at our blog too.

  5. I love the lockers and the baskets. Where did you find your baskets?

Also I LOVE the piano. I want to paint mine but my husband has a thing with painting wood—I have to figure out a way to get him to see that even paint can be removed.

  6. Hi Lisa,
Laura is great, isn’t she?! She knows her stuff. I love them in white. I also like their current height if your taking a little poll on that. 🙂 They look great in that corner…neat idea!
Did you get linked up? InLinkz is right at the bottom…click on the blue froggy that says, “Add Your Link.” It will create a niffy picture link…just follow the directions. 🙂

  7. What a difference a little paint makes! These look great!

Oh, I’m honored that you like my pillow enough to copy it! Copy away and I just hope you’ll let me know when you make one so I can see it.
    Be a sweetie,

  8. Hi Lisa,
So nice to communicate with other bloggers. Thank you for commenting about my friend Eileen. I’m new to blogging and I get so excited reading blogs like yours. I think the lockers are great in white. Paint color is baffling to me. I’ve been trying to figure out what color to paint my bedroom walls for 13 years now. I just bought a beautiful blue quilt so I just have to figure out whether to match the walls to it or paint a contrasting color. Any suggestions as to how to figure that out?

  13. WOW – I clicked on your site for the piano and then saw THESE!!! Love your color choices and the lockers are striking. I bought a set just like these but they have legs for my son’s room. They are pukey gray now and I know now that I want them white – what an inspiration..Great job & I’m following! Jen

  14. Love the lockers!!! Where did you get yours if you don’t mind me asking?
Iv wanted some for the loooooongest time.

Great blog by the way, I just started mine I’m a new B, working on projects now tho 🙂

    1. Thanks Suzanne! I got them at a flea market. I had been looking for some for years when I found them. They don’t have shelves, but we bought some at a back to school sale. 🙂

  15. Did you ever find the “two more” wire baskets you were looking for?? I KNOW where I might be able to get you a couple!!! We have them at the Park Dist where I work…If I can’t get my director to part with them…just google old park district wire baskets! I am thinking of a couple other Park Districts I know of that still use them!!! 🙂
