Oil Paint Breakthrough
I have always been a bit scared of oil based paint. The last time I used it was circa 1986. That project turned out so badly that we eventually trashed it.
I’ve painted a lot of furniture…..
Just to name a few. But I used latex for all of them.
The project I have going is a serious transformation. I have only told two people I was planning this (besides my family who thought I was insane). I didn’t want anyone to dash my hopes and dreams. I did get encouragement from two unsuspecting blogs. They may not know I exist, but they both told me that oil base was the way to go. If you need paint and decorating wisdom, go see Laura and Kate. Don’t tell them I sent you; they might find out I am stalking them.
This morning I sanded and scrubbed and rubbed and taped and prepped. Tonight oil is drying and waiting for a light sanding and another coat.
I am surprised to say it went pretty well. Oil paint has changed since I used it 24 years ago. I got a nice, smooth coat. It didn’t smell so bad that I had to make the kids move into the guest house for the next three days. The clean up was much easier than I remember. It did splatter a LOT more than water based paint. I am a very neat painter and can usually brush with no drop cloth or even tape, but there is no way I could do that with this
I can’t show you what I am working on just yet. What I have done is taboo, but I am sure when you see the finished project you’ll forgive me.
I am off to bed with primer in my hair that will probably be there for weeks. But it’s worth it.
The living room redo has begun. I can’t wait for you to see it.
So… what color are you painting the (_ _ _ _ _). I don’t know if you want it spilled… so, I won’t say. BUT truly, you are one of the only people in the world I think can pull anything off in regards to home decor. Anything. Taboo or tame. You, girl!

I remember you mentioning doing something to a certain 5 letter word, in a semi-recent post. I had no idea you meant paint!!! Can’t wait to see what it looks like — I agree with GfG; when it comes to redos, you can do anything!
