My School Screen
While I was building the Boy’s room, I threw together a screen for the school room.
The idea had been rolling around in my head for a couple of months. I’m not sure what sparked it. I just know I am trying to find that balance in the school room. I want to display the kids’ creations. But I also want it to look tidy and match the rest of the house.
So I designed (OK “designed” is a stretch, it was more like imagined and wondered if I could possibly make it) a screen that would lean against the wall. I have a spot by the write & wipe board that is right next to the hallway. I couldn’t put anything there that sticks out from the wall. I guess I could, but James would crash into it a lot during the night. Don’t ask me how I know this….you really should just believe me.
Here is what I came up with…..
Sadly, I was so crazed to finish the room that I didn’t stop to take pictures of the frame in process. But it was so simple.
I used 1×3’s and a 3″ piece of trim. I built a frame with the 1×3’s. Simple math, two short pieces the same size/ two long pieces the same size. I didn’t miter those corners. I cut four triangles and glued then nailed them to the back. It’s very sturdy. Then I used my handy dandy….NOTEBOOK! Oops! Sorry, too much Blue’s Clues. I used my little staple gun to attach rabbit wire to that frame. Then I cut the trim (sorry, you have to do a tiny bit of math here to make it fit the base frame) and mitered the corners. I attached it to the 1×3 frame with my brad nailer and I was finished. Piece o’ cake.
Wait! Is there cake? Sorry, my diet is getting to me.
I love it. I used florist wire to attach those clip thingys (I’m not big on technical terms) to the screen. I will attach more as needed.
Look how adorable these flash cards look on it. James got them for me on ebay. Can we all just take a moment of silence to remember the good old days?….
It’s so great to get a little more organized in the school room and at the same time be adorable.
That’s my motto: Adorableness at all costs. Even if it causes your husband to break a toe in the night.
