Day One….

The first day of the new room project is over. I’m having trouble typing…

I can barely move my arms.

Hammering nails into concrete is really difficult. And I hammered at least four of them before I passed the job on to someone else.

My parents came to help. It was so sweet. They drove four and a half hours to be here. Although I am a little worried about Mom. This is what she was wearing on her feet.

Are you OK Mom? Do you need to lie down? Maybe hammering in a few cement nails will help you feel better. Here, take my hammer.

We built a frame inside of the old arch….

And cut OSB to fill the opening.

The hard thing about doing remodeling on an old house is figuring out how to work with what’s already there. How to attach everything, what to cut, how to cut, why to cut….

We spend a lot of time discussing.

Ever heard the saying, “Too many cooks spoil the broth”? But everyone has to express their opinion. Then we do it my way.

We worked for about 8 hours and we all pooped out.

The outside is closed in and the window is up.

The inside is all framed and ready for insulation and sheetrock.

I know these pictures make it look like they did all of the work. But I hammered in a few nails, remember? Plus I was right in there arguing for my way. Don’t underestimate my contribution.

Hopefully we can get the insulation and sheetrock done tomorrow. But my parents won’t be here, so it’s questionable.

We will have next weekend to finish putting up the siding and outside trim, cut out the old opening inside, lay new flooring, paint, trim out the room…..

Oh my arms are too tired for all of that! Who wants to hammer in a few nails for their tired, old friend?

To be fair, I’ll give you the same wages I gave my parents……
