A Room with a Bed
This weekend we’re working on a big, BIG project.
My poor little (or not so little…sniff-sniff) 11 year old doesn’t have a place for a bed. We re-arranged the bedrooms a couple of months ago and since then he’s been sleeping on a sleeping mat while we figure out where to put a bed for him.
So today we start the process of enclosing a part of the front porch to make him a place. It’ll be a small place, but it’ll be his and he’s thrilled. When you are 1 of 9 siblings, a room to yourself is a treat!
Yesterday he helped me make the master list of materials and we went to the hardwork store (he named it that when he was three) to get what we needed.
I hate going to the hardwork store. Especially when I need a jillion things and all I have is an 11 year old to help me. I wish there had been a vidoe of us trying to get 8 sheets of sheetrock. It would have been fodder for “America’s Funniest Home Videos.”
Here’s the way the front porch looks now….
We’re closing in the arch. I won’t miss it. I’ve always disliked that thing. It was the original front porch to the house. Then we added on a huge porch and now it’s just a little wasted space where I keep a table no one uses.
We’ll remove the window, which looks into the boys’ room. So his little room will be a part of the room where his two younger brothers sleep. Plus the old front door (to the right) will be his access to the room when his brothers are sleeping.
It’ll be great. Stay tuned……
