The Perfect Red

I had a great need…..I mean a great!

Red lipstick.

The perfect red.

It is evasive….that perfect shade.

I decided I needed help, so I headed into Ulta….the place to buy overly priced make-up for desperate women hoping to hide their age.

I wandered around rubbing red lipsticks onto my hand….some were too pink, some were too orange. Finally I asked a young salesgirl, maybe 25, what she suggested. She thought I should wander around rubbing red lipsticks onto my hand. Thanks.

After a few minutes she said, “Let’s ask Cathy. She is really good with tones and colors. Oh Cathy! Can you help us over here?”

I turned, expecting Cathy to be a lovely, toned, tastefully dressed woman.

No.

What came toward me is hard to describe. Large woman, maybe 40 years old, bright pink hair…..big hair. She had on fake eyelashes. Like the ones you see for sale on Halloween. Just above her horrendous blue eyeshadow she had five sequins glued to each eyelid. To top it off, she was wearing the brightest pink lipstick I had ever seen.

If you know me, you know I am not good at hiding my true thoughts. I muttered something like, “She’s good at tones and colors?”

But Cathy took charge. She asked me a few questions and she led me to the perfect lipstick. She explained that it was exactly what I needed with my skin tone. It was obvious that she knew of what she spoke. Even if she did look a little like a clown rock star.

I ended up with “Leading Lady” by Lorac. She promised it was not only the best red for me, but it is a new formula that is long lasting. She wasn’t kidding! I tried some on in the car and then I ate a whole pear and drank a soda and after all of that my lips were still the perfect shade of red. Now that’s long lasting!

So there you go. I’m all ready for the holidays now.

What we ladies won’t go through for beauty.

If you’re looking for that perfect shade….go to Ulta.

Ask for Cathy.

This will be reposted on my second blog.
