The Sweater

“Mom, what should I do with this sweater? It was a hand me down from older sister. I don’t want it anymore and neither of the younger sisters wants it.”

It does have a stain on the front, so we can’t take it to the thrift store.

Hmmm…..I have been looking for some new winter pillows for the couch. The color is perfect….

Hey! I have an idea!

I will cut up the sweater and make a pillow. What’s more winter than a sweater?!

I had to work fast while the motivation was hot. That meant no going to the store. No buying anything. Just use what I have and be content with it.

I used muslin to line it. If I didn’t line it then the sweater would stretch too much when I stuffed it. I turned the stained piece inside out and the stain is gone.

I found a scrap of cording and some leftover fabric from the piano bench. I used those to make covered cording to go around the outside. Then I popped it into my embroidery machine and put some snowflakes (more winterness) and our last initial on it.

And voila! Old made new again.

Even though most of you can’t embroider something or whip out a pillow….I want to encourage you to look at your old things in new ways.

The point of this isn’t to get you to go make this pillow. It’s to encourage you to remake what you already have instead of buying new.

It’s fun!

This will be reposted on my second blog.
