Boys and Their Toys

This post is sponsored by AutoRight.

Y’all know I am all about my kids developing great character, so when my son lost his retainer (yep, wrapped it in a napkin at a restaurant and forgot it) we decided to allow him to work off the replacement cost by giving him a long list of extra jobs to do around here.  One of those jobs, poor kid, is detail cleaning all 4 of our cars.

He started with my minivan because, and I don’t want to name names here, mine is by far the cleanest.  The rest of the cars get progressively dirtier until he gets to the 15 passenger van which is possibly about an inch from being condemned.

He was given instructions for how to get it really, really clean.  None of this kinda-clean-I-hope-no-one-notices-that-one-spot-I-skipped stuff.

But who says detail cleaning has to be boring?  I knew just how to make it fun for him.  I handed him an AutoRight Detailing Polisher.  What boy doesn’t love gadgets and gun-shaped tools?

He washed the car first (using our favorite car wash wand!) then I gave him the polisher, all charged up and ready to go.  Since it’s cordless, it’s easy.

It comes with a scrub brush, polishing pad, cotton applicator and microfiber applicator.  He went to town scrubbing the bugs off of the front and getting the windows all clear.  He knows how much I hate a dirty window.

After cleaning the windows he waxed it using the pad attachment.  Whoosh!

He also buffed the dashboard and inside walls with the microfiber cloth attachment.  In the end, he had a fun time doing the finishing touches on the car AND it is looking so suh-weet! (well, as sweet as a minivan can get)

He felt pretty cool about it.

  1. I don’t clean my car as often as I should, but I clean my house almost everyday!ha!

  2. My son looks about the same age as yours and could use some incentive to clean our cars!

  3. I do not wash my car enough! Not sure how many times I wash it. Maybe quarterly, but doubtful 🙂 I do however, clean the inside out and vacuum quite often ;).

  4. Not enough! But my husband just got a “new to him” car and he loves washing it. Plus my oldest son is 12 and he loves washing the car too!

  5. I very much dislike having a dirty car! Maybe this would help motivate my kids to clean it!

  6. I hate these questions that expose me and my bad habits. I don’t wash my van near often enough I vacuum it even less often. the truth of it is, it probably gets washed about once a month. I recently got a car wash wand and my able-bodied children really appreciate it. I’m sure they would love this tool also.

  7. I wash my car about once a month, or whenever I’m trying to pretend that we actually keep it clean all the time!

  8. I pretty much never wash the car because that is a chore that my husband prefers to do and that is fine with me! 🙂

  9. I don’t ever wash my car…but my husband is a freak about washing them everyday…He would LOVE this gadget!

  10. I don’t wash the car as often as I would like. Every time I do it always rains that day or the next day. This would be awesome to surprise my mom with a clean car.

  11. If I found an extra sum of money, having my car detailed is probably what I would do with it. It is in the cracks dirty!

  12. Washing the car is a commission we pay our kids to do – usually once a month per car.

  13. 1x a week…. And the funny thing is, while I was waiting for this page to load, I thought, “Everyone is going to say that.” Ha! Guess not! Maybe we are just clean freaks… or maybe we just have a messy family!

  14. I don’t wash my car nearly as often as I should. My kids love to help when they can but we do need to get better at it. I live down a long dirt/gravel road so the dust can be quite a scare on my car. You know it’s bad when the preacher at church points out that your vehicle is the only dirty one in the lot. LOL.

  15. Here in Arizona with all the huge dust storms, we have to wash our cars twice a week.

  16. I try to get it done at least once a month. But, in the winter, I go through the car wash. Thanks for a great giveaway!

  17. My husband washes my car and my 4-year-old daughter usually helps. About once a year or so, he will ask me to take it to the car detail shop. I think he would love this Detailing Polisher!

  18. I try to pick up any stuff that doesn’t belong in my car (& garbage left by my kids) on a weekly basis. I try to wash/ vacuum once a month.

  19. we wash our car once or twice a week it all depends on what we do in it .
