Cleaning My Stove with HomeRight Steam Machine

OK, I am about to show you something gross, I don’t want you to be caught unaware.  Pictures and descriptions will follow.  I can no longer hide my shame.

So brace yourself.

This is what my stovetop looks like.

stove cleaning with my HomeRight Steam Machine

Here’s the way it looks with the grates removed.

stove

In my defense, we have tried and tried to clean it.  This stuff is so baked on that it doesn’t even scratch off with a steel wool pad (which I am sorry to say I did try a few months ago and scratched the finish).

When I read my friend Lyndsay’s post about cleaning her oven glass with the HomeRight Steam Machine.  I wondered….would it possibly clean my awful, impossible stove?  Could my dream of having a clean stove without using harsh chemicals actually come true?

HomeRight sent me a Steam Machine, so I got everything set up.  Also known as pouring water and plugging it in.  Then I started.  I worked on the front burner and in only about 5 minutes this was the way it looked.

All of the little scratches are from my unfortunate steel wool incident.  I was shocked to see how much came off just using the steam machine.  For the rest, I used a little plastic scraper in combination with the machine.  Steam a little, scrape a little, and so on.  After 30 minutes the front burner was clean.

Dreams really do come true!  Seriously, I could NOT believe it.

I took a break for lunch then I worked on the back burner.  It was tougher and took about an hour.  I just kept steaming and scraping and look…..

Here it is with both sides of the stove showing.  I plan to do the right side next weekend.

Then my fantasy of having a clean stove again will be complete.  It really is a small miracle.

  1. That’s awesome ! I’d use it on my stove and bath tub. I entered all the possible ways listed. I hope I win !:-)

  2. So if I win this (which I certainly hope I do), do I have to admit to my scuzzy stove top? I need an intervention :<)

  3. My stovetop has grieved me almost from the get-go. It was beautiful sleek black. And after a few meals cooked, it was crusty and gross. NOTHING has worked. No even chemicals. Soooo I would love to put this steamer to the test.

  4. I would love to try the HomeRight Steam Cleaner to clean my cupboard and pantry shelves…how do they get sticky dirt on them that just won’t wipe off?

  5. Oh my, I really like this post…my stovetop could use a steaming, and my grout, and the sinks, and the toilets…

  6. I am totally intrigued and might have to have a talk with my hubby about this–we could clean so many things. I can’t believe how excited I am about a steam cleaner! You’ve turned my world around again Lisa Pennington!

  7. This is amazing!! Love the thought of tackling a difficult job without chemicals 😀

  8. Would love this for my house. 3 teenagers and a dog at home create unlimited uses. Not to mention the husband 🙂

  9. I am so impressed! I was looking into steam cleaners for a Christmas gift. This really made me re-think the ones I had on my list. Great info!

  10. I’d LOVE a steam cleaner! I am thinking stove, bathroom, baseboards and more!!! My stove top is always a challenge. Way to go on yours!!

  11. Wow, I’m impressed. I wonder if it cleans the stove grates. Mine are in horrible shape. I love the idea of steam because you don’t have to use harsh chemicals.

  12. I have been thinking about buying one of these but maybe I can win one! I cleaned my grates by putting them in a gallon size ziplock bag and added ammonia (do this outside). Let it sit overnight. You will be amazed!! Of course if you live in cold weather region like me, wait til summer.

  13. WOW….impressive! I would love to try the HomeRight Steam Cleaner on my flat top range and the oven door window!

  14. I have an old 1950’s (?) bathroom with tiles all over the walls. Lots of tiles mean lots of grout, they need a deep clean and this would be so much easier than a toothbrush, not to mention it would probably also yield better results.

  15. With 5 little ones eight and under and number six on the way I can think of a dozen uses off the top of my head to help me clean more efficiently in a green way. I try to use green products as much as possible but there are areas of my house that I have not figured out how to clean well with out chemicals. I would love to try steaming these areas.

  16. I’m disabled and cannot get down and dirty with the nastiest job. Cleaning the bathroom! The base of the toilet needs a good cleaning with a husband and two sons! A steam cleaner would be perfect!

  17. I would use it on all sorts of things but probably try it on our bathroom grout first 🙂

  18. I would clean the shower doors first! I would then move onto the floors, furniture etc…… So many things would I use this on!

  19. I’m trying to eliminate all of the harsh chemicals we use in the house since we’re expecting our first child in August! Being able to clean and disinfect with steam is very attractive to me as we’re getting back to basics on the homestead.

  20. I need, need, NEED to steam clean my showers and toilet area! It’s so gross. No matter how many time I clean it I just know that it’s not REALLY clean. The idea of steaming it is so great! Must kill those germs!

P.S. Thank you for hosting..I love hearing about all your daily walks 🙂

  21. I had a hand steamer that I just adored- so handy for EVERYTHING. We literally wore it out, and I haven’t replaced it. I would love to win this!

We used our steamer to clean up carpet spots, crayon on the wall, that nasty spot behind the toilet (I have 5 boys) and also my son’s mattress, he has allergies.

  22. I would use it for my stove that looks exactly like your before pictures! I have been searching for an effective way to clean it.

  23. I would definitely use this on my stovetop and then my bathrooms. I have always wanted one of these.

  24. I would use this amazing machine on just about every surface in my house! I have lots of slate floors and they are tough on mops….
    Thanks for the chance!

  25. This is amazing!! I struggle with getting my white stove top and the grills clean. It would be so nice to have them clean again. Thanks for the opportunity!!

  26. I would love to have this unit if for nothing else but my bathroom!! Then I would also use it on my oven and my floors….all things that are so difficult to clean with my disability. Thanks for the chance to win this. Have a great day!! 🙂

  27. We bought a house that has a that desperately needs that stem machine! Black is definitely not my color choice for appliances but it does hide the cooked on gunk around the burners while I “chip away” at it a little at a time.

  28. Well, my stove could use the same steaming and scrubbing! Also my bathroom floor would benefit from a steam clean!!

  29. I would LOVE this machine because my grandparents want to take down their 30+ year old wallpaper. I would LOVE to gift to them my steaming services and remove their stubborn wallpaper! 🙂 And then I’d love to rip up their carpet and revive their original hardwoods!

  30. I was just thinking we were going to have to replace the stovetop! I have soaked and scraped and scrubbed. I even have those unfortunate scratch marks. My land lord would be so happy if we won this little steam cleaner! And I wouldn’t fume ever time I looked at the mess!!!

Thanks for posting. And showing that stove tops messes happen to the best of us!

  31. Woohoo for small miracles! I had a stove like that once in a rental, and I scrubbed it clean with a small scrub brush and baking soda.

  32. Wow! That looks great! I have been looking for a steamer to clean my bathroom tile, but now I want to clean my stove top!

  33. Oh my! I bet this would work wonders on my windows too! I can see my whole house sparkling after using this wonder machine.

  34. We have your 3rd baby on the way and I would love to have a way to disinfect our home without the chemicals. Id start with the bathrooms!!!

  35. I would start with my stove. Black gunk on black is still yucky. I’ve tried with everything safe. I don’t want to scratch it so there it is. If I don’t win this, I’m going to buy one with income tax.

  36. Wow! I’d love to win one of these if it’ll do for my grungy grout what it did for your stove .

  37. I have a shower with partial glass enclosure and a black stovetop that need serious cleaning help, rather, that I need help with cleaning. Lol
