My Fitness Journey: I’m Halfway There!

Good news!

This week I hit the 50# weight loss mark.  I am stunned.  I would not have believed that I could do that.  I have struggled for so many years to get a handle on my weight and to be 100% honest, I didn’t think I had the stamina to do it.

But here I am.  Fifty pounds lighter than I was 4 months ago.  Wow.

My weight loss journey....how I did it and you can too!

If you haven’t read what I am eating or about my walks every morning (like the one where I got caught taking my shirt off while I was walking) then here’s a summary of how I did it…..

1. Diet:  I am very careful about what I eat.  No grains (wheat, oats, rice, etc.), no potatoes, no corn, no dairy, no sugars (including fruit or artificial sweetener).  I basically eat lots of vegetables and protein.

I know, it sounds like it would be too hard, right?  That’s what I thought in the beginning and it was hard at first.  But once I made it through the first couple of weeks it got easier and now it’s like nothing.  I don’t even crave that stuff.  Even though I travel a lot it has been easy to stick to.

2. Exercise:  I.hate.to.exercise.  Let’s be clear on that.  I never thought I would be that girl who gets up every morning and works out.  It goes against everything in me…..especially the part of me that loves to sit in my recliner all day and take long naps.  But I just made myself do it.  Every day I get up an hour earlier than I used to and go for a long walk.

At first I could barely make it a mile without getting completely worn out.  But only 4 months later I am walking 5 miles every morning and I actually like it.  I am sad if I have to miss for some reason.  I KNOW!  Who is this person?!

3. Supplements:  I started taking several supplements, but the ones that have helped me most are the Lift CapsThey have changed my life by giving me the energy I need to stick to my plan.  Quite a few of you have told me you started using them and really like them too.  I am so glad!

4. Essential oils:  Y’all know I love my oils and I use them every day.  I rub them on me, on the kids, I diffuse them throughout the house.  But for my weight loss there’s one in particular that I have really enjoyed and it has helped me with the cravings.  It’s called Slique Essence by Young Living.  I add a couple of drops to my ice water and it not only adds a nice flavor, it helps curb my appetite.  If it’s just an hour before dinner or if I get cravey during the day I will drink it or sometimes just inhale it and it helps a lot.  It has grapefruit, tangerine, lemon and spearmint with a little bit of stevia…..it’s nice.

You can learn more about using essential oils here!

5. (which probably should have been number 1) Prayer I wake up every morning and before I even move I whisper a prayer asking God to help me stay on the path.  I surrender the day to Him and decide right then to make good choices no matter what comes up later.  No giving up.  No cheating (which is funny because it’s really just cheating myself, right?).

I still have a long way to go, another 45 pounds to reach my goal.  But it doesn’t seem so impossible as it used to.  Isn’t that wild?

If you are trying to lose weight or get in better shape, don’t lose heart!  You really can do it.  It’s not easy, it’s not fast, but it is SO worth the effort.

I believe in you!!!!

I am interested to know if the lift caps and Slique Essence are ok during breastfeeding or pregnancy?

  4. Congratulations! I have 45 to lose. I am with you the rest of the way. What’s for breakfast? I eat the same way as you and I am struggling with breakfast a LOT!!! Tired of eggs 🙂

  5. Anyone who has ever struggled to lose weight knows how hard it can be. So congratulations, fifty pounds is nothing to shake a stick at! Do you have some sample meals somewhere on your blog?

  6. Lisa I’m so happy for you because I know how good it feels to stay on track and see the results. You’re awesome! You’ve inspired me to get back on track.

  7. lisa–you are simply awesome. 50 lbs in 4 months is nothing to sneeze at!!! you’re an inspiration to me to keep on keepin’ on…as much as i REALLY REALLY REALLY don’t want to!

  8. I am so proud of you!

My husband was quickly approaching the 300# mark in January of 2012. He started his journey by simply tracking what he was consuming (using a great app recommended by our Dr. called LoseIt). With simple dietary changes – mostly portion control and and increase in fruits, and the addition of bike riding (which he has become totally addicted to… lol) he lost more than 115# and has kept it off for more than a year. It has made such a difference in his (our!) life.

I’m excited for you and what this will mean in your life – and the lives of your family!

  9. Good for you Lisa!! I need to lose a lot of weight and I have so many health issues that it makes exercising a challenge. But I did get the Lift Caps and they came today, so I will start them tomorrow! You are inspiring others, good for you!! Praising God!

  10. Way to go, Lisa! Keep up the good work! I’ve fallen off the bandwagon lately with my fitness regimen, and your post is just the encouragement I need to climb back onboard. Fifty pounds in four months?? Wow! If I lost fifty in four, I’d be back to the weight I was when I met my husband by March. That sounds great to me!

  11. Hi there! I could have sworn I’ve been to this blog before but after browsing through some of
the post I realized it’s new to me. Anyways, I’m definitely glad I found it and I’ll be book-marking and
    checking back often!
