Embracing Modesty, No 41

I was in a “mod” mood this past week.  I got out some of my fall clothes and dug into the very back of the closet for some of those “if I ever lose weight” clothes.

I got out my denim jacket which I love for fall.  Since I am not easily chilled, the short sleeves are perfect for me.  The brown skirt and t-shirt are many years old.  I was surprised they didn’t have moth holes in them.  And do you see that thing around my waist?  Yes…..it’s an actual belt.  I haven’t worn a belt in so long, when I put it on my stomach said, “Say what?!”.

This next tunic-thing-a-majig is something I made along time ago.  My clothes that fit me now are mostly from ancient times.  But I am refusing to buy anything new.  I plan to make this stuff work for as long as possible and keep my money for the real stuff….my final weight.

I wore the same brown t-shirt that I wore in the above photo. (please ignore my hair….it was pouring rain and there was no use fixing it)

My last outfit is a shirt/dress I got last season at Target.  I spend an hour one morning taking it in so I could still wear it.  It’s a little bit heavier than a t-shirt so good for this weather.

And what’s better than pearls on a fall day?  Nothing.

And, in case you’re interested, this is the only pair of pants I own.  They are very full and I only wear them with tops that hang down below my buttocks.

All in all it was a pretty MOD week.  Of course, at my age that brings back memories of the 70’s when I wore my first pair of gogo boots with a double knit polyester pantsuit. Now that was groovy man.

Have a great week.  And be sure to check out our Embracing Modesty Gallery to catch up on more modest ideas!

  2. Hi lisa
You can really see your weight loss. Time for a before and after update. Keep up the walking. It’s working. You look wonderful. Cheers.

  3. Have you shared how it is you are losing weight? It sure is working. You have great tast in choosing your wardrobe.

  4. My daughter and I love this series. She’s inspired by your daughters and I’m by you. Your desire and work to be healthy is motivating to me. I’m 6 weeks postpartum from having #7 and ready to move and groove! Thank you for all the pictures that give us great ideas for layering and accessorizing. Hope to try some new looks this fall.

  5. Dear Erma,

Your modesty updates bring tears to my eyes. OPP– did you hear that? The buttons burst off my shirt and fell onto floor. Your efforts are really paying beautiful dividends.

Next, thank you for your prayers. In another post you stated that you pray for your readers. God bless you for that.

Finally, as a former Weight Watcher leader, I want to encourage to keep wearing those belts! Also, try these ideas on for size. I don’t know your height, but here’s a rule I began playing with after I lost 40 pounds and studied styles that look best on me. I call it Short over Long and Long over Short.

I wear cropped or shorter tops or jackets that sit at or just below the waist over longer dresses or skirts. Longer tops, vests or jackets that fall at or below my fanny are paired with skirts that cover my knees.

Also, when I have a collar at the neck, I do a hairstyle that’s higher on my head, and with a crew or bateau collarless neckline, I wear my hairdo more near the base of my scalp. These tips elongate the look.

And finally, Miss Know It All wants to share about her shoes. When my hem is nearer my feet, my shoes are open-toed. When my hemline is nearer my knees, my shoes are close-toed. My favorite shoes are mules, and I’ve found that that style can be upcycled and refashioned very easily, too.

Just some fun ideas to think about. And I love your personal flair… and stewardship. There are some fabulous refashion blogs out there, too, like Refashiom Co-Op. You’re teaching your girls and, as a Titus 2 woman, many other women as well, that our outward appearance can reflect our inward peace and joy… and it doesn’t require a bank loan!

    Hugs,
    Kelley~
