The Blessings Jar

I just love reading to my kids.  We sit down nxt to each other on the couch and spend time learning something new or going to another world or being touched by someone else’s journey.  It’s a great way to be together.

Levi and I like to read a little book together each day.  At 6 years old he absorbs new ideas so easily and takes them into his little heart.  That’s why I am careful what I read to him. And this book, “The Blessings Jar: A Story About Being Thankful” by Colleen Coble is one of those books that teaches a good lesson while still being entertaining.

The little girl in the story is having a grumpy day.  He could relate to that….he has grumpy days.  She learns to be thankful for her blessings.  Levi said to me, “I could make a blessing jar!”  So sweet.

After we read it I gave him a jar and he would put little things in it to show me his blessings.  I’m looking forward to reading it to him again several times to drive the message home.  Plus I need to hear it myself.  Hey, maybe I need a blessings jar of my own.

  1. I love reading to my kids, too. My youngest is 5 and just about to start kindergarten. I love the idea of a blessings jar!

  2. This looks like a fun book for any age. What a blessing it would be to be having a grumpy day to only see the blessing jar and turn that grump into a happy person once again. I look forward to sharing this book with my kids.

    Thanks for this opportunity.

  3. This book would be perfect for my little one! We are starting our 1st year of homeschooling this fall and this looks like it would fit into our reading list very well! Thanks for the opportunity and for sharing with us!

  4. I don’t read to my children any longer. I now read to my grandchildren! Hard to believe, but even more a blessing to be blessed with my children’s children sharing and reading precious words that build up their faith and teach them lessons and cause them to dream the dreams God puts in their little hearts.

  5. You are right about being careful with your choice of books to read to little ones. My granddaughter, almost 2 1/2, is a shocking sponge!! I’d forgotten how much this age will absorb!! So, this book sounds great! Thank you for the opportunity to win one for her.

  6. There are so many books we enjoy reading right now. My youngest son loves to read 10 Apples up on Top as he is just beginning. He also likes Sir Maggie the Mighty a book on obedience. All the kids and adults enjoy many books from Lamplighter. What’s that saying So many books, so little time? Thats us!

  7. Richard Scarry’s “Please and Thank You” Book is a great one to read!

  8. My girls love reading stories from the Bible, and we are enjoying reading from “God’s little Princess devotional Bible.” The Blessings Jar seems like it would reinforce what we are working on here at home (as I read One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp) and having the girls start prayers with thankfulness. Thanks for telling us about it!

  9. I love to read the Little Critter books to my kids!!! my daddy read them to me and they are so fun and I can always find one that is a great lesson.

  10. As for my pre-teen daughter the Left Behind series for teens. For my two and a half year old son he has a storybook Bible with peek-a-boo flaps. We try to keep our books wholesome and Christian too.
