Minute to Win It Family Games!

Y’all know that our family loves to play games together. We can turn everything, from board games to ping pong, into a fierce but loving competition. And when we just have a short time together we like to do quick, fast paced challenges. Like they play on Minute to Win It on GSN! Have you seen that show?

The contestants have 60 seconds to complete a challenge using every day household items. We did it one year for our Christmas party and it was a huge hit. Our family likes to play them just anytime we are just hanging out. We enjoy the thrill when every.second.counts.

I decided to play a few the other night with my kids. Some of the younger ones and I pulled some materials together to see what we could come up with. We played three games….Yank Me, What a Racquet and Speed Eraser.

In Yank Me you have 60 seconds to stack four cups upside down with an index card between each cup, then yank the cards out causing the cups to stack as they fall. Once you get them all you win. Most of us could do this pretty easily.

In What a Racquet you have to get a gum ball to land in the very middle square of a tennis racquet. It was hard! If you try this I’d love to hear how it went! I was so tense when I did it I almost went all John MacEnroe. My daughter Hope got the closest of all of us….you can hear how excited we all were!

Our last game was Speed Eraser. You have to bounce pencils by their eraser on the table and get them to land in the cups. It was fun….even little Levi tried his hand at it.

Noah got the best score with 4 pencils in the cups.

It was a great way to spend an hour together! And we’re all looking forward to the new season of Minute to Win It coming out on Tuesday June 25 at 8/7c on GSN. There’s a new host, cutie pie speed skating champion Apolo Anton Ohno. We will get some new ideas for games to play together and, who knows, maybe a few of them will pop up in this year’s Christmas party.  For more information, connect with Minute to Win It on Facebook and Twitter and visit the GSN website

I’m giving away a $100 VISA gift card to one of you for answering this question: Which Minute to Win It game do you like the most, or if you haven’t played…which if the three we played would you like to try? Just leave a comment and you will be entered to win!

  1. Minute to Win it is so much fun. I think I still like the classic ping pong ball in the tissue box one. It’s hilarious to watch people jiggle around trying to get them out. I love anything that can bring families together for fun.
Loved your little one trying to get those pencils in there. Too cute!

  2. I love seeing the games other families play. We have been doing charades with our kids on Sunday nights. Everyone but Meres can play. They really get into it. No inhibitions.

  3. I don’t know the name of the game, but the player has 3 cups in front of them and a cup containing 3 colors of M&Ms. The player holds one hand behind their back and has to sort the M&Ms by color, one at a time, into the 3 empty cups with their free hand.

  4. Speed Eraser looks like a game my grands will enjoy when we are all together 4th of July. We will have to try it.

  5. We played minute to win it games with the kids that came to our senior graduation night party, and they loved them! There favorite seems to be one where you blew a cotton ball across a table by letting the air out of a balloon. Hope you are enjoying KC!

  6. Speed Eraser! Well, all of them actually, but I’ll start there. Thank you! I’ve actually never heard of Minute to Win It…so, NOW I’m in!

  7. I have always liked the oreo on the face Minute to Win It game, but we are definitely trying your games. Thanks for the fun, family friendly ideas!

  8. Speed eraser looks like super fun 🙂 I don’t know if a gum ball would survive long enough to play the racquet game. Thanks for the fun suggestions.

  9. All of them look fun:) We have done the speed eraser game at church before! We’ve also played a game (some people use this as a baby shower game) Where you have a bowl full of cotton balls in your lap, you are blind folded, you hold an empy bowl on your head, and with a big plastic spoon you try to see who can get the most cotton balls into the empty bowl. Kids love anything with blindfolds and making someone look silly! 🙂

  10. Never played it before and only watched it a handful of times quite a while back, but I would have to try Speed Eraser first I think…..
I am putting this on my list of rainy day things to do with my son!

  11. They all sound like tons of fun! The racket one seems the most challenging though, I love a good challenge!

  12. We love that show! My children would love ALL of them but What a Racquet would be greatest challenge for them.

  13. I don’t know the name of it, but we played a cute one at camp one year with oreos. You placed an oreo on your eye and had to get it into your mouth using only your face. It was fun to watch everyone contorting their faces trying to get that oreo to move. =)

  14. My favorite is still the one from the Christmas party where the candy canes had to balance on the taught line. Not because of the skill or particular fun of the game, but because you still had candy cane crumbs under furniture the following August…

  15. I think Speed Eraser would be fun! Actually, ALL THREE look like they would be really fun! Thanks!

  16. The speed eraser looks like the game we would have the most fun with. Thanks for the ideas.

  17. I have never played, but those games sound hilariously frustrating! I think the kids and I would like Speed Eraser. Thanks for the giveaway!

  18. We used to watch this all the time, but now we don’t have the channel. How fun to know we can watch it online. I can’t remember any of the names of the games since it’s been a while, but I’d say out of the three you listed, Yank Me would be my favorite!

  19. We played some minute-to-win-it games on Father’s Day — one required you to move an oreo from your forehead to your mouth without using your hands or losing the oreo. Pretty funny!

  20. Your family is so much fun! I have never watched that show but now I am going to have to! I think my boys would love your Speed Eraser game-going to have to try that one! Thanks Lisa!

  21. I would love to try Speed Eraser. I think it would be a lot of fun as well as improve eye/hand coordination~ Thanks for your blogs, authenticity and new methods of decorating, and precious moments of parenting that you share.

  22. I remember once watching the show and they did a cookie on the forehead that you had go move down to your mouth using only your facial muscles…it was hilarious seeing the face contortions Lol

  23. I’ve never played any of these games before, but hope to soon as we will be hosting a family game night here and will include other families, too! 😀 I’d most like to play What a Racquet, I think! This is fun!

  24. I think we will try them all! I’d start with Speed Eraser. Thanks for the fun games.

  25. The children have played all sorts of crazy ‘Minute to Win It’ games at church with the youth group, but I never have. I didn’t even know it was from a TV show! Guess I need to come out from under my rock a bit more often! Your three quick games all look like a lot of fun. I think I’d be terrible at them all, but might have a hint of a chance with ‘What a Racket’ – it looks like it takes patience and I happen to have a bit of that! Thanks for sharing your family fun and the opportunity to win a VISA gift card – I could certainly make good use of that!

  26. I would love to try the “what a racket” game! Plus so many others on the show!

  27. Oh – this is RIGHT up our alley!! We just LOVED that show when it was on NBC! We love the game where you have to stack 3 golf balls on top of each other. Also the game where you catch the balls in a bucket on your head! Oh – and the one where you shake the balls out of the tissue box tied to the back of your waist! SO much fun!!! 🙂 Great blog! 🙂 Thanks for the give away!

  28. My boys would love any of these games. We really need to try some. We’ve seen a few episodes of Minute to Win It and we always enjoy watching it.

  29. I love this post, Lisa! My daughter has played a few games in youth group. I’d like to try all these at home, but I am pretty sure my girls would love to bounce pencils by their erasers! We are having, well the kids are, friends over this weekend. Maybe I’ll be a cool mom and plan some games 🙂

  57. Not very good at quarters, so don’t think I’d be very good at speed eraser.
