Embracing Modesty, No. 22

This week we’re going to look at some of the quirkiness that goes on around here.  My teen girls like to experiment with their clothing and as long as they stay within the boundaries we have set for being modest I say go for it!  My motto: If you’re quirky and you know it clap your hands! {CLAP!} {CLAP!}

Patience likes to occasionally mix unexpected pieces together.  Like this skirt and top…they aren’t really the same style, but she tied it all together with a belt that she wears above her waist and a pair of plaid tennis shoes.  That green t-shirt is such a precious touch of color.

Most of their jewelry comes from their etsy shop, Little Women Sisters.  This adorable vintage key necklace is one of my favorites.  I love that they have their own shop.  It gives them a place to create and express themselves and make a little money.

Faith, my fashionista, likes to shake it up too. This grunge style top paired with a floral scarf is so her!  Not-so-perfect-yet-perfect.

She is also wearing one of the necklaces from Little Women Sisters!  They love these key necklaces (and so do I!).  But they have lots of other darling things in their shop.  I may just buy some of it for myself!

Now hang onto your hat for this next one.  I am not lying when I tell you that this is how the girls look about 1/3 of the time.  They come out in the morning in some crazy concoction of cuteness and whimsy and it just melts my quirky mamma’s heart.

They popped the lenses out of a pair of thrift store glasses and they wear them all of the time.  Her hair…well don’t ask me but I love the crazy librarian look so I like it!  That pink flower finishes it all off with a pow.

There you go.  It is possible to be a crazy, fun, modest teenager.  My girls play with their outfits every day.  Not all of their creations are a success, but as they get older they get better and better at it.  I will tell them sometimes why a combination works or doesn’t, to help them learn how to create these darling outfits.

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check out our Embracing Modesty Gallery to keep up with our whole year of modest outfits!

  1. Love the creativity! All the outfits look great and so well put together – the last made me laugh, but still so cute and quirky! Like the motto. 😀 I’m always getting new ideas – these modesty posts never get boring!

  2. These girls are so cute! Love the life that just springs out of them, the creative joy that’s seen not only in the threads, but especially in their faces!

  3. I can’t wait for my darling girl to get up (she had a late night so I’m letting her sleep in) and be inspired by your girls fun fashion choices! She just ‘scored’ big time with a never ending box of hand-me-downs that included 2 amazing dresses, 2 trendy jackets, 3 Style J skirts and about 10 other things that fit her to a T! Now the challenge is to incorporate them in her wardrobe and weed out what she hasn’t been wearing – and to come up with some creative outfits by mixing it all up! I’m not so good at that, but she is getting better as she grows and matures. She’s also been wearing some fun funky lens-less glasses and doing her hair differently each day! She doesn’t have a sweet sister to spur her on, but your girls really do inspire her!

  4. Heehee, I so appreciate your openness to your girls quirkiness!
    Hope’s outfit looks similar to some things that I wear.

  5. I absolutely love the last look! I love the glasses and shirt, but the hair is my favorite!! So cute and full of personality.
