Week One Check-In

It’s been a week since starting my “42 Days to Fit” challenge and since a bunch of you said you were going to do it with me, I thought we should check in.

So far I have lost a whopping ONE POUND.  I know it’s not much, but I’m not too disappointed.  In the past I will do these crazy diets and lose a bunch of weight, but then I am anxious to get back to normal and I gain the weight back once I have met my goal.  So I have a new plan.  Here it is: Don’t do that!

Instead, I am using the 42 Days ebook as a guide to change my lifestyle.  This past week it’s been about going off of sugar, drinking more water (which I need to do more) and exercising.  I think that’s enough change for one week, don’t you?  I have never really exercised with regularity, so it’s been a big difference in my life.

Every morning I try to convince myself to stay in bed.  “Just this one day,” I tell myself, “won’t hurt anything.”

But then I think about my kids and how they have started getting up early too.  Noah is walking with me on the days I walk and that has been so nice!  He talks to me about his life and at 14, I don’t get to talk with him much so I am treasuring that.  Our road is a sweet, simple place to walk.  We love to look at the little houses along the way.

On the alternate days when I’m just exercising in my room by myself I am more tempted to skip it.  But so far I have made myself get up and do it.  It’s a whole new Lisa!

Another thing I am doing is T-Tapp Basic Workout Plus.  Have you heard of it?  It’s a 15 minute workout that I had great success with a few years ago.  It’s not too terribly hard and I really feel better after I do it (which is unusual since I mostly feel worse after exercising). I am doing that 3x a week (the same day I am doing some, not all, of the core workout, which is making me so sore!)

I can’t say my meals have been super great.  I’m not pigging out, but I know they could be lower in calories.  But for me, the sad truth is, if I jump into something drastic I will be miserable and not stick to it.  I know myself.  I’m weak.  Not eating sugar has been such a big change that I will have to work slowly into watching calories too.

I have a long way to go y’all!

I’m not going to rush it.

So how about you?  Are you making an effort to get fit?

  1. I’m not making an effort to exercise (for health reasons, no diagnosis yet so I’ll leave it vague) however, I am making an effort to not sit at my computer so much. I set a loud timer for 20 minutes; when it goes off, I must get up and do 40 minutes of something that requires standing and moving, either laundry or vacuuming or a “project”. Our house doesn’t need renovation but I’m making what we have better, so I have plenty to keep me busy. Today’s project involves painting and reorganizing a coat closet. Slow and steady and small changes make a big difference in the long haul. And there’s my alarm. Have a great day!

  2. Great job! One pound a week is a healthy rate and more sustainable in the long term, so don’t be disappointed at all. I use the website MyFitnessPal to track my calories and exercise, and the highest you can set it is to lose two lbs a week (although 1 lb a week is their recommended setting). I wish I had the places to walk that you do-it’s beautiful!

  3. Great Job! A few years ago I decided enough was enough. In 9 months time I lost 60 pounds. You can do it! Giving up sugar is huge. Carbs are my weakness. You are so wise to make small changes. I did not diet, but rather gradually changed to healthy eating, healthy portions and regular work outs.

Happy First Week of success! Keep at it.

  4. Hi Lisa,

I really admire you for this and the way you are choosing to be accountable to yourself. I wish you much luck! I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your site and find encouragement in your words. I thought I would share this website with you that I found when I did Weight Watchers after my third baby girl. (It just wasn’t coming off!) Anyway, her food is so tasty and so diverse I never felt cheated. The bonus? My entire family loved her recipes too!

    The website is http://www.skinnytaste.com

Hop over there and check her out. You won’t be sorry!

  5. Well done for taking up the challenge. My 9 y o son likes to walk and talk with me too. This is week six of 13 fit and food focus for me. I have now lost 3 kg which is my first loss since my last child. I too use myfitnesspal. It has helped me tremendously.

  6. Good for you! Sounds like you’ve made enough changes for one week, too! I like to ease into things slowly, changes seem easier to make permanent that way.

  7. I lost one pound. I’m not going to complain too much… my hubby lost 8!!! I know that it will all make a difference eventually!

  8. I’m doing well. I too lost a few pounds and I want to take it slow also. Keep it up and I will be comment again next Thursday for accountability. Thanks.

  9. I started the challenge on Monday, so I haven’t weighed myself again yet. Things are going well and I’m staying away from the sugar.

  10. I have been doing my own kind of thing since November. I have lost 20 pounds so far. I have been at a standstill for a while. I basically eat what I want just limit the amount. I don’t eat hardly any sugar (unless there is a birthday – can’t pass up birthday cake). I treat my self to skinny cow candy bar once in a while. If I totally take away everything, I will give up and go back to my old ways. I hope to get rid of another 20 pounds by fall.

  11. I’ve just begun doing daily exercises. The girls are doing it with me, so i can’t get off with it (even when I want to!).
I’m trying to do a couple of miles on the treadmill too. Although I’ve only put on 7lbs, I’m only 5 ft and it’s made a real difference to my clothes and the way they fit (don’t fit 😛 ) me … it’s *horrible* when everything is tights round the middle..

So … well done, Lisa. Here’s hoping I stick with it too.
    Anne x
