Embracing Modesty, No. 13

One of the problems with being a stay at home mom is the lack of interest in getting dressed.  As hard as it is sometimes, I make myself get dressed and somewhat put together even though I’m not going out or seeing anyone but my family.  I always think, “They have to look at me and I want them to have a nice day.”  So I draw my eyebrows on and I brush my hair….I love them that much.

And I get out of my pjs.

You can still be comfortable and wear a dress.  Maybe not an an evening gown, but something simple and stretch knit.  Or denim, if you like that.

I showed you this in an earlier post, but it’s a prime example of what I wear around when I’m just hanging out at home.

Another example that is comfortable but still looks nice for my family.  I’m not sure what my facial expression is all about….I look like I’m trying not to fall over.

You’ll notice I have a necklace on.  That’s because I love this necklace so much I just like to wear it.  I’m just realizing I have it on in the next photo also.  Not unlike a 3 year old girl who thinks she’s a princess.

That look made me feel a little rock & roll, so I did my 70s rocker imitation.

It means “I love you.”  With my tongue sticking out.

I hope you’re enjoying our series….and don’t forget to catch up if you’ve missed anything!

  1. ROFL! I have so much fun reading your posts! Lisa, you are talking right up my alley in this post. Because I am a small business owner and work from home myself, I am tempted to work in my jammies so often that I sometimes realize I just did a load of laundry and am still wearing what should (REALLY should) have been washed. Ha! All of these outfits would be great to have. I especially want to find one of those “sweaters” that have the long pointy fronts, and normal length in the back. Not that I expect you to be shopping for me, too, when you’re as busy as you are. But if you find one in coral, it’s mine!

  2. I always get dressed. I have since I was a kid. Even being home schooled, doing school in our pjs was not an option. we always got dressed, and I still do. Dress for the day you want to have…

  3. It is important to get dressed everyday – though when home I often skip make up!

We need to dress for our ‘job’- we have great work to do and I still like to be comfortable. So usually a comfy skirt, nice tshirt, sometimes shoes….

  4. I have to comment on this one! I really like all of your outfits on this post but especially the “rocker” one. That jacket looks so good on you! I also like that you are wearing sandals! As a stay at home Mom I am guilty of staying in my pjs until its time to go somewhere. I need to buy some of those soft knit long skirts! Those are surely as comfy as pjs! We are a family who wears jeans mostly but I do like to wear skirts as well.

  5. I used to draw my eyebrows on every day too. But several years ago I took the plunge and got ‘permanent makeup’ done, which is really just tattooed eyebrows. There are many places that do the permanent makeup thing these days (lips, eyeliner and brows). It cost me $400 but it lasts several years. And, when I go back for touchups, it only costs $200. TOTALLY worth it. You can have your brows completely filled in or done with a brush stroke technique, which looks like eyebrow hairs. You bring your eyebrow pencil and they match that color to the tatoo ink. If you lived in Virginia, I’d send you to the woman I went to. Awesome skills.

  6. I love your blog! I have been following the series because this is something I was convicted on when I accepted Jesus. I changed my whole concept of clothes and how I present myself.
