Finally I Make Great Turkey Gravy!

I have mentioned before, I’m not the best cook.  I just don’t have the touch.  I have a few really good recipes that we make over and over and over.  No real variety going on here.

The worst thing I make….the absolute worst….is gravy.  I just can’t do it.  It always turns out lumpy and flavorless and most of the time it has a slight burned taste.  I tried lots of tips and tricks but I just couldn’t master it.

I used to get really tense when the clock started ticking down to Thanksgiving.  I can handle most of the meal.  The meat is tender, the mashed potatoes are delicious, but I couldn’t get the gravy right.  I finally decided to try a mix and add a little of my own twist to it.  Guess what!  No lumps, great flavor.  I was sold.  What took me so long?!

When McCormick gave me the chance to tell you about their Turkey Gravy Mix, I knew it was perfect.  I already swear by it!

I like to use the mix as kind of a base instead of just following the directions on the package.  (You’ll be glad to know it has natural spices, no artificial flavors and no MSG!)  My favorite way to use it is following this recipe on the McCormick website and I usually add some sage or thyme.  To give you a hint, you combine the mix with flour and add a little bit of the pan drippings from the turkey when add the water.  It makes the gravy taste homemade and seriously, NO LUMPS!

I mixed some up last night so I could try it again before the big day next week.  My kids were thrilled.  They love Thanksgiving, so this little pre-turkey-day practice meal was a special treat.

Just so you know, last year we had a crowd for Thanksgiving and I got plenty of compliments on my gravy.  I’m definitely planning to use the same recipe again this year.

If you need an easy gravy for this Thanksgiving, try the McCormick Turkey Gravy Mix.  It’s so easy to add a little extra seasoning to make it just the way you like it.

And as if easy gravy wasn’t enough to get excited about….McCormick is going to let me give one of YOU an awesome prize!  One of you will win a Le Crueset Gravy Boat, Le Crueset Condiment Ladle and a $50 Crate and Barrel gift card.  It’s worth $75….Woohoo!

The giveaway ends on Sunday at midnight and you can earn up to 7 entries…..good luck!

  1. I like the gravy mix because, as you say in your post, it makes gravy nearly fool-proof – something I definitely need when cooking! 🙂

  2. Ooops. Didn’t answer the question in my last comment. 🙂

I like McCormick gravy mix because it makes cooking easier for my husband so he can spend more time with me. 🙂

  3. I haven’t tried it yet…I am an even bigger cheat and use the stuff in a jar. I’ll have to try this next time, because I CAN NOT make homemade gravy.

  4. I love McCormick products. I have fond memories of seeing the those products in my mom’s kitchen cupboard. And my grandmother’s kitchen cupboard. And now my cupboard is full of McCormick’s products! I’ve used their brown gravy mix dozens of times, but have never tried the turkey gravy. So glad to know it works well!

What a wonderful giveaway. Thank you to you and the folks at McCormick for this!

  5. I like the fact that there is no MSG – and I am a decently creative cook but I’ve always struggled with gravy so I just put this on my grocery list! I am so thankful that you posted about this because I’ve invited a large group for Thanksgiving and was already sweating about the gravy! LOL!

  6. I like McCormick Turkey Gravy because it is so easy and tastes so good! My Dad’s side of the family always does giblet gravy – gross! I much prefer this non-organ version!

  7. I’ve never tried McCormick gravy mix, but I do like everything else I’ve tried that they make, and most of my spices are McCormick. And to the commenter that said it tasted almost like mom’s… She might want to ask mom to see her recipe ;0)

  8. Because it is EASY… when making REAL gravy isn’t! And it is yummy! And it is available HERE where I live!! (in a third world country at an import store) Yea!

  9. bummed… I don’t “tweet” so I can’t unlock the other entries… so only 2 entries for me. =0(

  10. I love it not only cause it tastes great, but I love how easy it is to make. I have in the past tried to make my own gravy and it does not always turn out. I love that McCormick always turns out and my family cannot tell the difference from it and home made!

  11. I’ve never used McCormick Turkey Gravy. It sounds good. Do you know if the mix is gluten free? If so I could use it with my GF rice flour.

  12. I love McCormick Turkey Gravy because it taste like homemade and takes half the time to make. Thanks!
