Getting to Know You

I’ll be leaving for Influence in 5 days and I’m starting to panic.Β  I woke up in a sweat last night after dreaming that I forgot to take my products for the market.Β  GULP!

In order to get to know one another, the influence girls are having a “Getting to Know You” party.Β  I thought it would be fun to do and even more fun if you all will answer the questions too.Β  So here are the five questions.Β  I’d LOVE to know your answers in the comments!

1. What’s the most played song on your ipod?

For me that would be Blessings by Laura Story.Β  But a close second is Mayberry by Rascall Flatts.Β  I’m a complicated person.

2. If you could work on only one project for the next year what would it be?

OK, this would be REALLY hard for me.Β  I’m a project-lovin’-girl.Β  If I could only have one for a year it would have to be something BIG….like adding on a laundry room.Β  And if I had a whole year that thing would have all kinds of extras like crown molding and chandeliers made of burlap.

3. What story does your family always tell about you?

Again, this would be a toss up.Β  I think they would just tell general stories about the situations I get myself into….like the time my skirt fell off in the Bed. Bath & Beyond parking lot or my foot got stuck in a boot at Target.

4. The best part of waking up is __________.

β™« Folger’s in your cup β™ͺ

Sorry, I couldn’t resist.Β  OK, I actually don’t drink coffee.Β  Nope, it’s true.Β  I’ve never even tasted it.Β  For me the best part of waking up is knowing I have a whole, new day from God and I get to fill it for His glory.Β  That’s my very first thought every day.

5. What is your favorite time of day, week, month, year?

I like all times of day.Β  I like all days of the week.Β  But I definitely LOVE the fall best….probably November is my favorite month.Β  I love the crisp weather and the holiday mood that is starting.

OK, it’s YOUR turn!Β  Answer one, some or all in the comments!Β  I want to know more about you!

Β Follow me on Facebook to keep the conversation going!

  1. 1. Song on my MP3 (don’t have an iPod daughter owns it) Michael Jackson Billie Jean. I am a product of the 80s and this is the favorite song to dance to on the Wii – Michael Jackson experience. My Girl Scouts beg to do it at least once before they leave meeting. LOL

    2. One project for a whole year especially if money wasn’t an object of concern -my home. I love my home but when we bought it every square inch of the walls and some of the ceilings too are covered in wall paper. We have been living in it for 4 years and have done my daughter’s room (it had the worst wall paper – white with blue (yes blue) sunflowers on it). The Foyer and Living room have pink floral vitorian lacy wall paper. Kitchen has yellow with pink flowers and it is on the CEILING!! Yes the house would be my project!!

    3. All my crafting adventures – there is not a craft we are not willing to face down and grapple in the dirt with.

    4. I do not drink coffee either – so the best part of waking up for me is knowing I am blessed with another day to try and do God’s will, help someone if I can and spend as much time with my two favorite people my hubby and daughter.

    5. I love Fall too – this is when Jonny & I were married, plus it brings football, and the holidays. Not to mention I think this is when God does his greatest work at showing off nature.

  2. Morning Lisa,
First I always enjoy reading your post.
    1. The most music played here is Earth, Wind and Fire!! Love the up beat sound and all the horns! I have seen them in concert 3 times and hope to do it again, lol!!

    2. My one year project would be the back yard. We bought the house one year ago and all is finished but the back yard! But this is one project I will enjoy doing. We got the pool in and I killed all the grass (looks lovely, lol!) Now deciding on flower beds (even if I have to wait to plant) and ground cover (which will mostly be plants, rocks, flower beds).

    3. The stories most told about me would be my absent mindedness!! One example, usually losing the car in a parking lot (forgetting where I parked, as i walk the lot!) among other loss items! LOL

    4. The best part of waking up: “Thank You JESUS for this beautiful day!! (I am with you on that one! And I do drink 1 cup of coffee each morning)

    5. My FAVORITE time is: (most people won’t agree) SUMMER!! I am in N.C. and it does get hot! I Love walking out on the porch barefooted (with coffee in hand). Most of all, I LOVE THE BEACH! I am happiest looking at Gods beautiful creation and swimming in the ocean!

Well thank you for sharing and thank you for asking. Karen

    1. Karen, now you’ve got me stuck on that song! But I can’t agree with summer. No ma’am. Too hot! I’m glad someone likes it though! Lisa~

  3. Well, I don’t own an ipod, but I am really into Ricky Skaggs Mosaic cd right now. It is Christian music, but sounds likd 70’s classic rock/pop music. Very cool.

Project, hmmm, I have have a couple, but I would really love to finish painting my horse pastue fence…I know nothing really exciting about that, but I have half of it painted and it is getting chilly here in Ohio and I am afaid I won’t get it finished till next sping.

The story my husband tells about me is when I was walking through Burger King with a full tray of food and drinks in my high heels (my first mistake) and of course out flies my feet and food goes flying in the air and lands on me and my husband just laughs at me…….falling stories are common. I seem to do that a lot.

The best part of waking up is knowing I have been blessed by God to stay home and take care of my grandchildren. I take that responsiblity very seriously and try each day to teach them about the Lover of my Soul.

The favorite time of day is when my husband walks through the door each day at 4:15 pm. After 33 years I still love to see him drive down the road and into our driveway. I love Sundays. A day of fellowship and rest. My favorite time of year is October. Here in Ohio the changing leaves are just a gift from God right before the grey days of winter.

    1. Donna, I am going to check out that Risky Skaggs album! And raising a grandchild would be a deep responsibility! You are in my prayers. Lisa~

  4. 1. Song on my iPod is David Phelps’ singing just about anything, but I love him singing Nessun Dorma so much that I have to play it when my husband isn’t home because he gives me this look of, “Really? Again?”
    2. Only one project for the next year would be all about me. I’m not kidding! I’m always last on my list of things to do and I am so empty that God is calling me to my priorities to be filled in order to have anything left to give. Part of taking care of me would definitely include fully nesting my home, my garden, my spiritual and personal life. Flat out, I would nurture myself.
3.The story my family tells ad nauseum is how many times as a little girl they would do my hair and I would run my head under the faucet taking it all back out. I was very young, maybe first or second grade, but when I would remind them I hadn’t given them permission to do that to me, they tell me I was too young to grant permission. Um, uhhhhhh, no I don’t think so.
    4. The best part of waking up is hearing the birds twittering outside and the air cool enough (sometimes) to sit outside with a purring cat.
    5. Favorite time of year is any time the temperature is 75 and lower. I absotively can’t stand the life-sucking heat and humidity!

    1. Celia, I haven’t heard that song. I am going to itunes to look for it. Thanks! I’m with you on the life-sucking heat. I am SO glad it’s over for the year. Lisa~

  5. 1: Right now it is “Oh Love That Will Not Let Me Go” sung by The Master’s Chorale. Or Phillip Phillips (who would name their kid that?!?) “Home” (thanks to the olympics). I’m also on an Adele kick.
2: I would re-do my kitchen. That is if I have one year and an unlimited budget. πŸ™‚
3: My family tells the story of me yelling at a British woman while we were vacationing. In California, not Great Britain. It was sort of like when you spoke to the young woman who parked in the handicapped spot.
4: The best part of waking up is… hitting the snooze button? Rolling over and going back to sleep? I am NOT a morning person! And only a decaf with lots of yummy stuff in it from Starbucks coffee drinker (I don’t even own a coffee maker), so maybe that has something to do with it!
5: My favorite time of day is probably 9 pm. My son has been in bed for a few hours by then and my husband has had time to relax after work. Plus, dinner is done and cleaned up (usually!) I’m a night person, so that’s probably when my favorite time of day starts.
My favorite time of week is Thursday. It is almost the weekend, but there is still time to get stuff done because my son is at preschool.
I don’t know if I have a favorite time of the month. I have a least favorite!
My favorite time of the year is fall, especially November. I love cool weather, football and fall colors. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because there is less pressure and business than Christmas (a close second!).

    1. Melissa, I do love that time of day after everything has been cleaned up and the kids are in bed. Whew! It’s a sweet relief. Lisa~

  6. 1. ipod?? Ha ha.. I own I think but it is probably being used by someone else. and when no one is home I sing to myself.. old hymns, the wrong words to songs such as the song “I second that Emotion” by Smokie Robinson… for my entire life I thought it was “Secondhand emotion” it was only when I found an anniversary card this year which contained it that I discovered the “real” words! so needless to say my husband got quit the chuckle out of it and i have to admit the folks in the store gave me some odd looks because i kept chuckling to myself while wandering through the store. Ha ha!
    2. Only one project? Thats easy!! Our house! Yes… the entire thing because well it truly is one HUGE project!! (and hopefully it’ll be mostly done before Christmas this year. why? I don’t know its just the date in my mind.)
    3. My husband is the only one who tells stories about me… his favorite??? Laughing while he tells folks (only friends, never strangers) how “forward” I was when we first met because I introduced myself to him… then I have to proceed to explain how we had been talking for several hours already when I made this comment… “You know, we’ve never been formally introduced… I’m Peggy, by the way” his response??? “I know.” The stinker! But the conversation had been so interesting that I couldn’t bring myself to wander away… we continued to just sit and talk for several more hours and the rest is history!
    4. having another day with my family and knowing that God is gracious and mighty and that whatever may unfold will not be more than I can endure with His might. knowing that each day is a new slate… πŸ™‚
    5. Because of my inability to make a decision each season of the year is my favorite time… well except for the hottest part of the summer. I love planting, growing, harvesting, making stuff for others, and the lazy days of spending time with family! being outdoors enjoying God in his creation, starry nights when it is so cold that you can throw boiling water into the air and it evaporates into an icy cloud before it hits the ground, blazing fires in a wood stove, fireflies on a warm summer night surrounded by the ones i love!

    1. Peggy, I thought it was secondhand emotion until I just read your comment right now! It’s not? My mind is blown. LOL!

I love your heart. So sweet. See you soon! Lisa~

  7. 1. any of the Pride and Prejudice soundtracks
    2. project? I would build a cottage in my backyard. preferably 2 bedrooms, 1 bath.
    3. the time I made the kids eat a lo-carb pizza for lunch after church.
    4. for me, waking up is often the hardest work I do all day. I like it when I can wake up naturally…which means I wake earlier in the summer…but later in the winter because of the timing of the sun’s rise.
    5. Favorite time of year: AUTUMN!! I thought I would die when we lived in San Antonio…there is no such thing as a “real” autumn there. I am _so_ looking forward to this coming Monday here in SC because the high is going to be 61!! Yeee-ha!! Any temp between 45 and 68 degrees is yummy to me. Favorite time of day: in the evenings, when I am already in bed, and my kids come down and sit at the foot of my bed and talk to me. LOVE THAT. Favorite time of the month: pay days πŸ™‚

    1. Shannon, having lived in Texas all my life I guess I didn’t realize that we don’t have a real autumn. I belong in a different climate ‘cu I’m with you on the perfect temperature! Lisa~

    1. Uh-oh Kimberly, you read it wrong. I don’t drink coffee…never have. But we can find something else to unite over, right? πŸ™‚ Lisa~

  8. Here goes…I don’t have an iPod but I listen to gospel songs in the car every where I go. One project all year – oh my! – probably catch up on scrapbooking but that would probably take more like ten years! The story told about me is probably the one about me thinking I was adopted until I was sixteen. I believed that because my older brother and sister always told me that. I was very shy and quiet and never let on until time to get my license. My mom was appalled. The best part of waking up is taking a shower and starting a new day. Like you, I love fall!
    Debbie

    1. Oh Debbie that story about you thinking you were adopted is so SAD! Poor little thing. I always take my shower at night. See? I think it’s so interesting to learn this kind of thing about each other! You fascinate me! πŸ™‚ Lisa~

  9. 1. Right now..Veggie Tales “This is my commandment” but I would prefer Jesus Culture radio on Pandora!
    2. Definitely it would be the Laundry room make-over I didn’t start last spring.
    3. Um, I’m not the focus of the stories at the moment! But give it time, I’m sure..
    4. The hour of quiet I get before getting lunches ready and everyone wakes up. Lately, Beth Moore has kept me company as she reaches me about Deuteronomy and it has been so invigorating!!
    5. I love the morning. But I am an October-December girl. It doesn’t get much better than these beautiful months!!

    1. Stacie, we have quite a few Veggie Tales playing over here too! That hour of quiet sound so nice! I don’t have that since the kids got older, but I can also go take a break when needed, so it was a good trade. Thanks for answering! Lisa~

  10. Song: Mandisa with a bit of Toby Mac–Good Morning–how can I be sad listening to that?! Followed by an old son Be Ye Glad
Project: Make my own little Christmas tree as I did for others out of stuff found in my Dad’s darning suitcase filled with his darned socks, old Ushirts, broken red suspenders, many kinds of strings, threads, and darning supplies…oh I made such unusual little Christmas trees for others but never made my own…from what others said was a heap of rags Dad 1920~2010
Story about me? I was an EGGHEAD!!! I had little hair that first year and it came in so blonde that my older siblings could always get a wahhhh out of me by saying You were an egghead!!! Now we all laugh about it! I have the most hair of all.
Best part of waking up: honestly I am sick each morning because of health problems, so my favorite part is to sit in my corner chair and read my Bible. Eventually it gets a bit better πŸ™‚
Favorite time of day: sunset into twilight

    1. Gwen, I sure would love to see that little Christmas tree! It sounds so beautiful and charming. But I’m sorry to hear you’re sick in the mornings. I’m glad it slowly gets better. You’re precious! Lisa~

  11. 1. Most played song on my iPod:
Goodness, of all time, I’ve no idea! However lately I’ve been flogging the song “Hold Me” by Jamie Grace, feat. TobyMac. I hope to learn how to play it on the guitar, because I love the lyrics. πŸ˜€

    2. If you could work on only one project for the next year what would it be?
It would be my sci-fi novel. πŸ˜€ Even if I would probably get bored with it at times…

    3. What story does your family always tell about you?
Um… there’s too many. πŸ˜‰ Probably the time when I put a wooden block in a stocking when I was really little, and swung it round and round, accidentally hitting my brother in the forehead. Guilty of that little scar above his eyebrow. πŸ˜›

    4. The best part of waking up is __________.
Having a hot shower, which is part of my waking up, and then spending time with God. πŸ™‚

    5. What is your favorite time of day, week, month, year?
Day? Around 4pm when the weather is nice, and the sun’s rays just begin to slant through the gumtrees. Week? Friday, because that means Saturday is coming! πŸ˜€ Month? Every fortnight, because Church music practise is on. Year? Autumn, or fall, as you call it. πŸ˜‰ I love the cool overcast weather; it’s perfect for fires and tree climbing. πŸ˜€

    1. Oooh, I’m with you on the hot shower. I love that too. But I take mine at night.

We’re looking forward to that sci-fi novel around here!

  12. Enjoyed reading your list! I love Rascal Flatts, but they are terrible in concert. Been twice and it was the same exact show! I have a lot of their songs on our playlist, but most played would be a toss-up between Kenney Chesney’s “Back Where I Come From”, or a Taylor Swift song bc my daughter loves her music. If I could work on one project for an entire year it would definitely be filling in baby books and printing out pictures. That sounds awful, but I haven’t written in Darby’s since he was 6 mos old and poor Darcy doesn’t even have one:/. Guess I’d better get to work!
If my husband could tell something repeatedly about me, it would have to be about the time when we lived in College Station, I was still attending TAMU and he was just graduated. I heard glass break during the night and jumped up to shut our bedroom door and called 911. It was actually a picture frame that I had above the stove that had fallen and broke. I will never live that one down. The best part of waking up is seeing my little baby’s face when I open my eyes. He’s my last baby, so I’m soaking it all in . My favorite time of year is definitely fall. I love the cool air, getting outside without the pollen everywhere, apple cider, coffee, hot cocoa, pumpkin candles…

    Amy C.
