31 Everyday Ways to Connect with Your Child, Day 11: Serving Others

There is nothing that can bring you together more than serving others.  You know that feeling? When you do something generous and kind for someone else….oh it’s the BEST!  And you are giving your child a great gift when you connect with them in service.

Look for opportunities, both inside the home and out, to pull together to help someone.

At home you can plan nice things to do for Daddy.  Work together to make him a favorite meal or secretly clean out his car.  You can make sister’s bed together or clean up after another family member just to be nice.  Show your child the right attitude to have.  Teach him not to point out his service to others, but to just do it without expectation of reward.

Outside of the home you can help a neighbor, take food to someone in need, pick up trash along the road, help a stranger with her groceries.  Do these things with your child so he can feel the bond of doing something selfless together.

Even a small act of service can teach a big lesson.
